Organizational Unit Overview |
The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean or Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.
Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs in rural populations of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed. Advanced patient care is also provided to patients by participating faculty in the Faculty Practice in Ross Hall. |
Job Duties |
The Director of Revenue Cycle reports to the Assistant Dean of Business Operations and Financial Affairs to support key fiscal and operational components of the clinical practice and revenue cycle operations. These include direct management responsibility for staffing and operations in the Central Billing Office (
CBO) and will work closely with Clinical Affairs for decentralized activities. Centralized functions include: Payor Contracting and Evaluation, Regulatory Compliance and Coding; Insurance and Patient Billing, Follow-up and Collections; Cash Management of Professional Fee Revenue; and Reporting and Analytics. Decentralized functions include: Pre-Service Financial Preparation; Service Identification and Reconciliation; Coordinated Patient Access Support; and Contact Center. Job contingent upon the availability of funding.
Revenue Cycle Management (60%)- The Director is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and assessing the performance and efficacy of all revenue cycle fiscal policies and procedures to maximize reimbursement while maintaining best practice revenue cycle metrics and patient and provider satisfaction and adherence to compliance policies. Develops, provides training, implements, periodically reviews, and monitors the success of policies, procedures and operations tactics and strategies that ensure exceptional revenue cycle and related performance in compliance with all governmental regulations and industry requirements. Works to develop staff through mentoring, coaching, leadership development, training initiatives and periodic feedback. Promotes process improvement as a means to improve business results. Coordinates the development and enhancement of electronic billing system and other software or technology that improve the efficiency and/or quality of operations. Maintains leadership credentials in the revenue cycle industry through periodic training and keeping abreast of the current literature regarding revenue cycle operations; represents the
CBO and entity in a positive way at various industry, provider, payer, and other meetings and committees; builds upon experiences to develop knowledge, skill and capability to discuss and recommend operational changes which will improve results and enhance revenue cycle performance while maintaining or improving service levels to all customers. Maintains a liaison relationship with providers and clinical staff in order to ensure compliance with overall group practice strategy and policy. Develops and revises the fee schedule.
Business Analytics (25%) - Monitors, reports, and provides detailed analysis of revenue cycle operational performance and results. Ensures all levels of staff, managers and executive leadership have information necessary to establish expectations, accountability and decision making for their areas of control.
Strategic Planning (15%)- Participates in the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategic goals in collaboration with SoDM leadership.

Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area and three years of professional accounting experience, of which at least one is supervisory; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriatelyaccredited institutions. |

Five years of management-level experience in a dental practice environment or healthcare setting. Excellent oral/written communication skills. |
