Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Communications & Social Media Specialist for the Rutgers Graduate School of Education. This position will assist and collaborate with the Director of Communication to lead strategic communication efforts to enhance our digital identity in a new and growing project titled, Building Early Learning Latine Educators ( BELLE). The central goals include showcasing our mission, vision, and priorities in the field of early childhood education in all our digital platforms and focus on strategies that reach field leaders, educators, and families. This multifaceted role requires experience in social media strategy, corporate communications, public relations, and internal content development to support a new venture.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Develops, manages, and executes the project's social media strategy across platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
  • Creates and schedules content that aligns with the project's and the center's public relations strategy, marketing campaigns, thought leadership, and general goals
  • Monitors and analyzes social media performance using analytics tools; optimize content based on insights.
  • Engages with followers and manage responses in coordination with the communications team and the research team.
  • Stays current on trends and platform changes.
  • Supports and implement public relations strategies to promote key business initiatives, enhance the reputation of the project, emphasize BELLE's priorities and commitment to the communities they serve.
  • Works closely with the center's communications director on press releases, media pitches, quarterly surveys and coverage reports.
  • Ensures all communications are compliant with regulatory guidelines and aligned with brand standards at Rutgers University.

FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details $37 - $42/hourly

The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. We also take into consideration market benchmarks, if and when appropriate, and internal equity to ensure fair compensation relative to the university's broader compensation structure. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field plus a minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated record of producing innovative and impactful communications solutions across social media, public relations, and corporate communications vehicles, paired with a proven ability to grow responsibilities over time.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats and channels, including experience with newsletters and company publications.
  • Proficiency with social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, native platform insights).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
