Posting Summary
The Stavropoulos Lab at the Waksman Institute is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Associate. Research in the Stavropoulos lab investigates the mechanisms by which genes and brain circuits regulate sleep, using Drosophila as a model organism. We seek a skilled and highly motivated researcher with expertise in one or more areas that relate to our work, including genetics, molecular biology, neuroscience, cell biology, developmental biology, and biochemisty. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, a strong work ethic, and an ability to work collaboratively in a group are essential. Must be able to think independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple deadlines in parallel.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D. in biological sciences in one more more areas related to our research (e.g. genetics, molecular biology, neuroscience, cell biology, developmental biology, biochemistry).
The ability to read, digest, and evaluate scientific protocols and literature in the biological sciences.
The ability and desire to learn new techniques, and to train personnel in lab protocols.
A working ability and experience with computers and software for analysis and presentation of research findings.
Must be well organized and able to communicate effectively with the PI and other members of the lab.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Previous experience with molecular genetics in Drosophila or other model organisms.
Preferred Qualifications
Equipment Utilized
PCR machines, electrophoresis equipment, stereomicroscopes, epifluorescence microscopes, laser scanning confocal microscopes, centrifuges, tissue culture cabinets, spectophotometers and plate readers, and autoclaves.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Able to stand, lift 25 lbs and flexibility bending in small spaces
