Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) develops advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology for the safety and reliability of our Navy's submarine and aircraft fleet. NNL is seeking an engineer to join our Shipping Container Emergency Response Team (SCERT). The engineer will coordinate with the SCERT and stakeholders to develop plans, procedures, and training to prepare for the NNL response to a potential accident event involving a radiological material shipping container. The engineer will not respond in person to the site of any accidents or emergencies. Responsibilities will include developing/leading functional exercises and tabletop scenarios, preparing operating procedures, and preparing/delivering trainings. The engineer will also need to be familiar with the design, analysis, and safety reports of NNL radiological shipping containers including an understanding of the regulatory requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support other engineering and business activities of the Reactor Servicing organization, as needed. This position will require minimal travel to summits and exercises.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

'Minimum four year BS degree in engineering or other similar science/technology field Microsoft Office Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

'Familiarity with radiological material shipping containers and/or transportation safety analyses
Familiarity with 10CFR71 Experience in emergency response planning, training, and coordination
Experience developing/delivering technical training or exercises
