Under general supervision, operate as a primary point of contact for both the Davis Campus and UCD Medical Center in Sacramento for life or property emergencies and general police/fire services. Use a Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) to dispatch and track various levels of calls for service and public safety resources. Inquire into the Records Management System and support the police records unit after business hours; use the Mobile Data System and Mapping Software to track resources; inquire/enter/update or modify data in the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System(CLETS); operate technically advanced and complex alarm computer systems, operate complex radio console, use various computerized applications, operate video display terminal, answer and handle the E911 Public Safety Answering Point. Independently determine level of emergency response and coordinate police/fire/ambulance services as well as other resources as needed or required. Function autonomously but under the general supervision of the Dispatch Supervisor or the Director of Administration. In the absence of the Dispatch Supervisor or the Director functional supervision is provided by the on-duty patrol supervisor.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- CA POST Dispatcher Certificate and/or CA POST Entry Level Test letter with score of 55 or better
- LATERAL APPLICANTS: Must possess a current valid California POST Dispatcher Certificate which is awarded to those who have satisfactorily completed the California POST Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course and completion of probation as a public Safety dispatcher with a California POST participating Law Enforcement Agency.
- ENTRY LEVEL APPLICANTS: Possession of California POST Public Safety Dispatching Certificate must be obtained within twelve months of hire date.
- Valid California Driver's License.
- Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Equivalent to graduation from high school.
- ADDITIONALLY, ENTRY LEVEL APPLICANTS meeting the minimum qualifications but do not already possess a current valid California POST Dispatcher Certificate will be required to submit a letter from a California POST Dispatcher testing agency showing that they have taken and passed the California POST Dispatcher Entry Level Exam with a T-Score of 50 or higher within years 2023-2025 to be considered for an interview.
- LATERAL CANDIDATES: Two years of experience dispatching police and/or fire services for a public safety agency using contemporary dispatching technical tools, including computer aided dispatching systems.
- ENTRY LEVEL: Two years of experience involving heavy public contact while performing multiple tasks and using a computer and answering phones.
- Ability to perform a variety of complex work with speed and accuracy; remain calm under emergency situations; learn to operation specialized law enforcement automated information and communication systems; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations; read, interpret and record data accurately; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Skill to operate an office computer and a variety of work processing and software applications; effectively operate specialist law enforcement automated information and communication systems; type accurately at a rate of 40 words per minute.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAD, CLETS and other law enforcement specialized software.
- Knowledge of civil, criminal, and municipal provisions relating to the various activities of the Police Department; law enforcement, fire, and other operating procedures and functions of the Department as they relate to the dispatch function; legal and procedural techniques and regulations regarding transmission and reception of public safety radio traffic; basic radio and related equipment maintenance.
