Under general supervision of the Unitrans Maintenance Manager, responsible for assigned repairs to all vehicles (approximately 55 total) within the Unitrans fleet, including heavy- and medium-duty buses, as well as a small support fleet of vans, cars, light duty trucks and maintenance equipment. A significant function of the position will be transit coach servicing and inspections of vehicles and equipment that are primarily powered by compressed natural gas, gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric batteries. Position performs a wide variety of skilled technical work including, but not limited to the trouble-shooting, maintenance, testing, repair, calibration, fabrication, installation and modification of onboard electronic equipment and a wide variety of other automotive control system components. Performs other maintenance related duties as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience diagnosing and repair of transit and/or heavy duty vehicles and working in an automotive or heavy equipment repair facility.
- Experience maintaining electric vehicles and operating diagnostic tools
- Skills in heavy duty vehicle maintenance inspections and servicing on compressed natural gas engines, diesel engines, and electric propulation including interpreting and understanding technical manuals and engineering drawings.
- Skills in repairing heavy-duty transmissions and HVAC systems, including use of computer aided diagnostics and repair.
- Skills to interact in a collaborative and team-oriented environment and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possess a valid Class A or Class B California Driver's License with air brake Endorsement and DOT medical certificate within 30 days of hire.
- Experience mentoring employees.
- Experience operating and maintaining equipment such as mobile lifts, forklifts, etc.
- Interpersonal communications skills working with students and people outside the organization, such as vendors and suppliers.
- Ability to develop creative solutions to unique maintenance challenges caused by the age and complexity of vehicle fleets.
- Skills in diagnosing and repairing high-pressure fueling systems using compressed natural gas.
- Ability to create clear, concise and legible written statements of fact.
- Knowledge of proper hazardous material handling procedures.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance support equipment, such as towing vehicles and forklifts.

Department Overview
Unitrans provides fixed route transit services for the City of Davis and the UC Davis Campus. The system is characterized by a combination of modern buses and vintage double deck buses, as well as a large student employee base. The system has an annual operating budget of approximately $4 million. Unitrans operates a variety of equipment including five diesel double deck buses, one CNG-powered double deck bus, 42 CNG-powered single deck buses, and four minibuses. In addition, the shop provides maintenance services for a small fleet of five vans and minibuses for the Tipsy Taxi program, as well as incidental repairs for other UCD departments. Finally, Unitrans staff maintains the on-site CNG and diesel fueling stations used in its transit program.

Work Environment
