Position Summary: The AVP of Facilities and Operations is a managerial leader responsible for the strategic direction, oversight, and day-to-day management of the institution's physical infrastructure, operational services and the capital projects team. This includes direct oversight of Facilities, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Security, Food Services, and the Project Management Department, as well as the supervision of senior leaders such as the Chief Facilities Officer.

The AVP reports to the Vice President for Business Affairs and maintains a close relationship to the Vice President and General Counsel (for all real estate, legal transactions, and emergency/crisis response matters). The role demands a leader with exceptional organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills, capable of aligning operational excellence with institutional priorities.
Position Responsibilities: Strategic & Organizational Leadership


  • Provide vision, leadership, and operational oversight for all departments within Facilities and Operations.
  • Supervise direct reports including the Chief Facilities Officer and the Senior Director of Capital Projects.
  • Align operational plans with the strategic goals of the institution.


Facilities & Maintenance Management



  • Ensure the effective and efficient operation, maintenance, and stewardship of all buildings, mechanical systems, and grounds.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs and ensure timely responses to service needs.


Project Management & Capital Planning



  • Oversee all construction, renovation, and capital improvement projects.
  • Manage external architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes.


Real Estate & Transactional Matters



  • In coordination with the Vice President and General Counsel, support real estate planning, acquisitions, leasing, and transactional documentation.
  • Manage relationships with legal, zoning, permitting, and municipal authorities as needed.


Security & Crisis Response



  • Oversee security operations to ensure the safety of people, property, and assets.
  • Lead operational components of emergency preparedness, crisis management, and continuity planning, in coordination with legal and compliance leadership.


Food Services Oversight



  • Supervise food service operations to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality service delivery.


Housekeeping & Custodial Services



  • Ensure clean, safe, and welcoming environments across all buildings and public spaces.
  • Monitor performance standards and service contracts.


Budgeting & Operational Efficiency



  • Develop and manage multi-million-dollar capital and operating budgets across all functional areas.
  • Identify and implement operational efficiencies, cost savings, and sustainability initiatives.


Regulatory Compliance & Safety



  • Ensure full compliance with building codes, fire safety standards, ADA requirements, OSHA regulations, and environmental laws.
  • Lead or support audits, inspections, and risk assessments.


Staff Leadership & Culture



  • Build and lead a high-performing team across multiple service areas.
  • Foster a culture of service, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.


Experience & Education Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • At least 15-20 years of progressive leadership experience in facilities and operations management, with demonstrated success in supervising multiple departments and managing capital projects.
  • Experience managing large teams and budgets in complex institutions.


Preferred:



  • Certifications such as PMP, IFMA CFM/FMP, or LEED AP.
  • Experience working in higher education, healthcare, nonprofit, or public sector settings.

Salary Range: $240,000 - $250,000
