This role will support student teachers placed in Harnett, Duplin, Edgecombe, and Wilson counties. It is ideal for someone within commuting distance to those areas, as the work will primarily be performed on-site within these counties.

The Transformational Scholars Student Teaching Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting and mentoring student teachers participating in the Transformational Scholarship Program. This is a temporary, part-time position running from November to May. This program focuses on developing teacher leaders committed to serving rural eastern North Carolina communities. Supervisors will provide guidance, observation, feedback, and support to ensure student teachers' success while adhering to program requirements and donor stipulations. This position requires strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Building: Supervisors will foster strong working relationships with their assigned student teachers This involves initial meetings, planning sessions, and establishing effective communication channels.
  • Supervision and Evaluation Supervise and provide regular feedback to assigned Transformational Scholars student teachers. Conduct formal observations, utilizing established rubrics, and provide constructive feedback to promote growth and development. Complete all required documentation and evaluations in a timely manner. This includes:

    • Weekly check-in meetings (virtual or in-person) with each student teacher.
    • Bi-weekly in-person visits to each student teacher's classroom.



  • Mentoring and Support: Offer ongoing mentorship and support to student teachers, addressing challenges and celebrating successes. Serve as a liaison between student teachers, cooperating teachers, and university faculty. Assist in conflict resolution and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Community Liaison: Actively connect student teachers with relevant community resources, organizations, and individuals. This may involve identifying and facilitating partnerships with local businesses, non-profits, community leaders, and other stakeholders to enrich the student teachers' learning experience and expand their professional networks. Supervisors will help student teachers leverage these community connections to benefit their students and teaching practice.
  • Program Coordination: Collaborate with program coordinators and fellow supervisors to ensure the effective implementation of the program. Attend relevant meetings and contribute to the overall success of the Transformational Scholars Program.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Ensure that student teaching placements align with the program curriculum and learning objectives. Work closely with cooperating teachers to provide relevant support and materials.
  • Communication: Maintain consistent and clear communication with student teachers, cooperating teachers, program administrators, and other relevant stakeholders. Provide timely updates and address concerns effectively.
  • Travel: Travel to various school districts in eastern North Carolina to supervise student teachers

Minimum Experience/Education
Minimum experience and education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in a K-12 setting, with a demonstrated commitment to equitable and inclusive education.
  • North Carolina teaching license required.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising student teachers preferred.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology for communication, documentation, and evaluation.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Transformational Scholars Program.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
