Overview
Utah State University Extension invites applications for a 4-H Program Coordinator. This is a full time, benefited position. This Extension position includes university responsibilities and is based in Millard County. Office space will be provided at the USU Extension office in Delta, Utah. This position will report to the Millard County Extension Director.

Millard County has historically been a major agricultural community. True to its roots, the Millard County Jr. Livestock Show, 4-H horse and shooting sports continue to be among the most popular 4-H programs in the county. 4-H also has a strong presence with teen council, region ambassadors, sewing, cooking and gardening clubs, and is looking to build more programs for youth within Millard County.

The position requires knowledge of Jr. Livestock youth programs (4-H/FFA livestock programs) as well as the 4-H horse program. Volunteer recruitment and management for other 4-H program areas such as sewing, cooking, shooting sports and many others is also expected. We welcome candidates with diverse interests and experience related to these areas.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the 4-H program in Millard County to help recruit and develop new volunteers and participants in all program areas.
  • Provide leadership and support to Extension activities related to the Millard County Jr. Livestock and horse 4-H program.
  • Assist in program development for the teen council and region ambassador programs.
  • Develop educational programs for 4-H youth related to livestock (beef, sheep, pigs, goats). Educational programs could include but not limited to nutrition and feeding, disease management, fitting and showmanship, animal selection, show ethics, record books.
  • Work with the Millard County Jr. Livestock Committee and volunteers in developing and assisting at the livestock show.
  • Working with the 4-H horse council, help plan and carry out 4-H horse shows in Millard County
  • Assist with County Fair poultry and rabbit shows.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating events for sewing, shooting sports and other 4-H programs in Millard County.
  • Support volunteers in all 4-H programming in Millard County.
  • Develop partnerships and employ innovative approaches to reach clientele and new audiences.
  • Work with county Extension faculty and on-campus specialists in developing educational program development and delivery to clientele.
  • Serve and collaborate with other Extension and University personnel, community and government agencies, and stakeholders.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned Bachelor's degree in the area of education, animal science, Extension Education, agriculture education, family and consumer science or other educational field -or- equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in teaching youth audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work site.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with program development and/or delivery related to Jr. Livestock programs.
  • Experience with program development and/or delivery related to 4-H horse programs.
  • Skills and experience with recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.
  • Skills and experience with managing schedules and calendars for multiple programs.
  • Skills and experience with social media.
  • Skills and experience with related organizations/agencies and fostering positive relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Prior experience with the Land Grant University System.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct educational programs.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and schedule multiple 4-H programs.
  • Ability to act as a liaison between federal, state, university, and county clientele.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
