Job Description
THE ROLE: User Acceptance Testing Engineer (Temporary) The Quality Assurance (test) Engineer is responsible for designing, documenting and implementing tests to ensure the reliable operation and effective utilization of software related to media supply chain systems for all A+E Global Media (A&E, Lifetime, History, etc.). This position will work with a variety of operational and technical teams to understand how different systems and workflows integrate with each other, as well as work closely with the rest of Media Infrastructure Engineering to help clarify technical design details, including testing to ensure systems are working effectively before, during and after system changes. MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Serve as a tester, working with the group to design both manual and automated testing approaches that will allow the department to validate systems are working well as software development processes scale over time. Manage projects related to media file and metadata management, including integration with other systems that require media information - both internal and external. Understand systems made and/or managed within the team, as well as systems made by other A+E teams or 3rd parties in order to design test plans to validate they are working as expected for media supply chain workflows. Identify automation opportunities to help with software-focused testing within the team. Partner with other analysts and engineers to design test cases and execute test plans. Serve as a media processing (transcoding and quality control) expert within the team, helping ensure media supply chain workflows that include these tools are properly designed, evaluated, documented, and tested according to user and workflow requirements. Create documentation regarding test plans that can be followed by other teammates. Assist in the creation of test plans and other documentation for operational teams that can support their validation of system requirements and ongoing operations. Serve as an escalation point to internal teams helping to identify and resolve complex, software-based issues involving multiple systems. Mentor and enhance the skillset of other team members, and enable team members to contribute to test plans and QA processes.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Bachelor's degree in an analytical field such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, physical sciences, business, another related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 3 to 5 years creating, documenting and executing test cases to validate software product and/or workflow functionality. Minimum 3 to 5 years working with media-focused processing tools for quality control and / or transcoding, with a preference toward having built and managed workflows with these tools. Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience working with software-development tools at some level including configuration, maintenance, and/or deployment of software- focused systems. Some experience working with machine-readable data structures such as XML, JSON, CSV, and/or configuration files for software tools. Deep familiarity with the tools associated with a modern operating system such as Windows 10, Macintosh OS X, or a modern flavor of Linux. Deep familiarity with Fabric, What's On, and MOD (Bebanjo). Experience working with users to gather and create requirements for workflows.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Deep familiarity with an automated media quality control tool such as Telestream Vidchecker or Interra Baton, with strong knowledge of Aurora Tektronix a plus. Deep familiarity with a video transcoding tool such as FFMPEG, RadiantGrid or Telestream Vantage, with strong knowledge of Amberfin Dark a plus. Familiar with cloud-computing and the tools available from modern infrastructure providers, with a strong preference for knowledge of AWS. Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM environment. Familiarity with server-based operating systems (both Windows and Linux-based) used in modern software products and data centers. Experience with enterprise-level Media Asset Management or Digital Asset Management systems, including IPV Curator. Experience with digital content distribution tools, including the Platform MPX. Experience with media-related WAN acceleration and file transfer orchestration tools, including Aspera and Signiant. Some experience with video production and post-production technologies, including video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro and/or Avid Media Composer. Some knowledge of key components involved in storage systems including SAN, NAS and archive systems (LTO). Knowledge of business process modeling conventions and tools. Self-organized with significant attention to detail and procedures. Ability to prioritize and address multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently and with other members of a team. Proven leadership qualities. Demonstrated significant and strong interpersonal and written communications skills.
Please note project assignment associates are engaged to provide service to A+E Global Media on a temporary basis in connection with a specific project. Project assignment associates are hired and employed through a third-party vendor with a duration/tenure of no longer than eighteen (18) months.
