Marine Diesel Engine SME

Position Summary:

Life Cycle Engineering is experiencing a great deal of growth within our Engineering and Technical Services Group. With that growth, we are currently looking for Diesel Engine SME Support in our Norfolk, VA location. The Marine Diesel Engine SME will support NSWCPD Code 422 as a local representative for In-Service Engineering Support in Norfolk, VA. You will support diesel engine propulsion systems and ship service diesel generators onboard Navy submarines/surface ships and work alongside program managers, engineers and Navy personnel.

Contract Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review and revise diesel engine logistics documentation and maintenance standards
  • Observe and analyze diesel engine operating performance against established guidelines
  • Communicate with ships force personnel in a distance support role to identify and correct potential diesel engine problems
  • Review work packages and specifications
  • Assist ships force personnel in preparation for major engineering evolutions and inspections
  • Report on findings and provide documentation of repair activities
  • Foster positive work relationships with all stakeholders - clients, co-workers, suppliers, etc. to meet contractual obligations
  • Assist other team members with their responsibilities based on volume of work, established priorities and leadership direction
  • Conduct ship visits (inspections and data collection)
  • Troubleshooting diesel propulsion and generation systems
  • Ensure ongoing service to clients by raising service level concerns and opportunities to appropriate leadership personnel
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested that the employee is capable of performing



Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Twenty years' experience in diesel engine operation, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Experience with troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of Navy marine diesel engines
  • Experience with troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of Navy marine diesel engine Control Systems preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Relevant knowledge of current Navy maintenance requirements and procedures



Physical Demands and Expectations:

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, standing and prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
