Department Summary
Working with a team of other Advanced Practice Clinicians on a 52-bed medical/surgical cardiovascular unit, providing front-line care management and coordination to post-operative cardiac surgical patients in collaboration with attending surgeons. This Advanced Practice Clinician will assess, diagnose, develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications and interventions, interpret diagnostic testing, perform bedside procedures and coordinate care for patients and their families. Consulting and collaborating with other acute care providers and interdisciplinary team members across the institution to provide comprehensive and exceptional care to patients, from infancy to adulthood, with congenital heart disease. Facilitating patient, family and multidisciplinary team education in a family centered environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Care for inpatient neonatal, pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart defects after surgical repair or intervention.
  • Perform procedures including chest tube and pigtail management and removal, temporary pacing wire removal and incisional care.
  • Coordinate care for management of acute and chronic medical issues
  • Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team and consulting services to provide comprehensive care for optimal patient outcomes
  • Coordinate complex discharge planning needs
  • Work collaboratively in a family-centered environment.
  • 36 hours, up to 50% day/evening/night rotation, every 3rd weekend, some holidays (including major)
Minimal Qualifications

Education
* A Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies

Experience
* 1+ year of current Nurse Practitioner experience preferred, or 1+ year of current PA experience preferred.
* Will consider new graduate Nurse Practitioners with 2+ years inpatient RN experience preferably in pediatric, cardiac, or higher level of care (ICU/ICP/ED) or new graduate PAs if prior pediatric cardiology and higher level of care rotations completed.

Licensure/Certifications:
* Current MA NP or MA PA license with PNP or FNP certification

*Sign-on bonus of $4,500.00 (for people who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
