Essential Functions
-Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.

-Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.

-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.

-Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.

-Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.

-Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and team-oriented laboratory technician who is passionate about biomedical research to work in our Thoracic Oncology, Gastrointestinal, and Pathology research groups. The position will be within the Massachusetts General Hospital Pathology department and research projects in the field of lung cancer and pancreatic neoplasms, among others. We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, a team player, and capable of handling multiple tasks, and enjoys a fast-paced and collaborative research environment. This person will be responsible for organizing experiments and tracking samples, carrying out protein biomarker analyses, and delivering results that are suitable for accurate interpretation, observing high health and safety standards.

The technician will be working with specimens obtained from surgical resections, biopsies, fine needle aspirate, and blood.

The main responsibility of the technician is to carry out the technical aspects of translational experiments using lung cancer, pancreatic neoplasms, and other samples, together with the MGB cancer center and pathology departments. The specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Coordinating research efforts

2. Tracking research related samples

3. Participation in the review of pathology slides

4. Performing technical components of various assays (including histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and immunofluorescence), including development and validation of new assays, and analysis of data

5. Participation in the design of research projects

6. Organizes and summarizes data and responsible for interpretation of results using statistical or graphic summaries

7. Prepares written status reports

8. Organizes material for manuscript preparation for publication and/or presentation at scientific meetings

9. Ensuring patient privacy and compliance with HIPAA guidelines

10. Education of other technicians

11. Work in a collaborative fashion with other group members including residents, fellows, and clinical research coordinators
