General Purpose of Job: As Court Liaison, serves as the liaison for court proceeding for Behavioral Health programs. Serves as a back up support for our Recipient Rights Officer investigate patient complaints involving recipient rights. Serves as a liaison between Behavioral Health and other hospital departments, the courts, law enforcement agencies, and/or other community or government agencies. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Recieves all appropriate paperwork for county probate court. This includes the petition, first certification and second certification.
- Round on each inpatient Behavioral Health to gather any legal paperwork and place in individual patient files
- Keep track of all patients being processed through the court system.
- Conduct deferral meetings with patients being processed for court.
- Complete and send deferral schedule to the attorneys and Community Mental Health.
- Coordinate meetings with Community Mental Health and attorneys assigned for the week.
- Create the court schedule and disseminate to all appropriate people.
- Document in the Electornic Medical Record for each individual regarding court.
- Receives and investigates complaints of alleged violations of patient rights.
- Intervenes on behalf of recipients to facilitate appropriate procedures and/or obtains remedy for apparent violations of rights.
- Prepares all necessary reports related to investigations and interventions.
- Observes all rules of confidentiality as related to protected health information.
Job Requirements

* Successful completion of MDHHS Recipient Rights Training - Required within 60 days of hire. |
Work Experience |
* See Education. * Experience working in an inpatient mental health setting - preferred |
Education |
* High school diploma AND a minimum of 3 years' experience in the field of Behavioral Health * OR * Associates degree in business, health care, criminal justice or related field and experience in the behavioral health field, the legal field, or a similar environment AND a minimum 6 months experience in the field of Behavioral Health, Legal Field, or similar field * OR * Bachelors degree in business, health care, criminal justice or related field and experience in the behavioral health field, the legal field, or a similar environment |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* General knowledge of computer use, MS Word, Excel and EPIC EMR. * Demonstrates effective communication skills, including the ability to interact with multidisciplinary professionals, patients and families. * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job. |
