Responsibilities

Laurel Heights Hospital is seeking a Behavior Specialist (FULL-TIME). Join our talented team of professionals as we work to provide the most effective treatment utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. The Behavior Specialist will play an integral role in the assessment and treatment of individuals in the Autism Spectrum Disorders specialty program at Laurel Heights Hospital.

Behavior Specialist Responsibilities

  • Observing and assessing patients' behavior; conduct intake assessments including function-based behavioral assessment and skill assessments in conjunction with the BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst)
  • Developing and implementing treatment plans in conjunction with the BCBA to address behavioral excesses and skill deficits
  • Conducting formal assessments in conjunction with the BCBA
  • Maintaining patient records and treatment/progress reports
  • Providing parent training and consultation in conjunction with the BCBA
  • Collecting, analyzing, and graphing behavioral data
  • Providing formal and informal staff training on effective behavior management strategies
  • Building and maintaining positive family/caregiver/community relationships
  • Working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team

Qualifications

Requirements include:

  • Minimum of a master's degree in mental health, psychology, or related field (Applied Behavior Analysis preferred)
  • The Behavior Specialist should be in pursuit of obtaining BCBA certification (strongly recommended)
  • The Behavior Specialist must have documented training in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis
  • The Behavior Specialist must demonstrate an understanding and the ability to apply principles and techniques of ABA and provide direction to other staff in their implementation.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with children/adolescents on the autism spectrum
  • Employee must have a valid Georgia Driver's License. EOE

The ideal candidate has exceptional oral and written communication skills; legible handwriting; ability to maintain information as highly confidential; telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face-to-face; familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred; skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the organization; skills in prioritizing and in managing time; problem-solving skills; use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for staff and patients; empathy toward children and adolescents; basic knowledge of child growth and development preferred; experience working with children with autism; skill in following behavioral plans necessary; able to respond to children/adolescents in a consistent and caring manner, consistent in maintaining professional boundaries; willingness to seek supervision in this regard when necessary
