Employment Placement Specialist- VR (Vocational Rehabilitation)

Primary Duties

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • General:Ensure that basic consumer information is collected and maintained in a common database and that can be used to track and report program activity and changes in demographics and services offered.Ensure files (electronic or paper) are up to date, complete, maintained, closed upon case closure with exit summaries prepared, and meet all Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards in the Community Employment Services section.

  • Vocational Evaluation: Assess consumer strengths, barriers, skills and interests and maintain close communication with referral agency. May arrange for assessment services, job club/pre-employment skills training and ensure that consumers are provided these services as needed. Make recommendations for appropriate employment opportunities. Make appropriate individualized recommendations which reflect consumers vocational feasibility and vocational goals by interpreting test results and integrating referral information. Identify consumers' vocational feasibility through analysis of testing results by developing individualized plans based on participant information, which ensure that appropriate psychometric tests, and work samples. Conduct labor market analysis to determine appropriate and available job opportunities in the local community then document labor market information in final evaluation report.

  • Employment Assistance: Prepare consumers for competitive employment through familiarization with job application forms, anticipated employer expectations and general interview procedures. Counsel the consumer in job seeking skills, including grooming and hygiene. Provide Job Placement, job seeking skills training, on the job training, job coaching, travel training as needed and other supports necessary for the consumer to obtain or maintain employment. This may be in format of Pre-Placement Training, Career Camps, Self-Advocacy, Peer Mentoring as appropriate. Provide follow along to individuals that are working to ensure they maintain their employment successfully.

  • Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) Fee for Service (only applicable for staff that are Certified Work Incentive Counselors): Ensure authorization is received prior to initiating any work with consumer conduct intake with consumer and complete a Benefits Summary and Analysis (BS&A) within 60 days of receipt of referral. Ensure updates are shared with administrative staff and any referrals over 60 days are closed out with counselor or new authorization is obtained.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Although this position is remote, the incumbent is required to travel frequently between Florida's Flagler, St. John's (St. Augustine) and Volusia (Ormond/Daytona) Counties.

  • Gather required data and complete reports for the contacting agencies on each consumer.

  • Maintain a caseload and provide job placement/development activities that ensure the employment of consumers and provide the required follow-up activities.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • Required: Associate's Degree (AA/AS) in Social Services or related field or minimum of two (2) years work-related experience may substitute for Associate's Degree.

  • Required: Minimum of two (2) years professional experience in business or rehabilitation community

  • Required: Valid driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation to perform work-related travel required. Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR).

  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Own transportation and insurance, and valid Florida driver's license and safe driving record required.

  • Excellent oral/verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of the community and community resources.

Supervision Received

The incumbent normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.
