Hunt Utility Services, a privately held company providing management and support services for Sharyland Utilities, L.L.C., a Texas-based electric transmission utility. Position Summary:

This position is responsible for providing technical support and transmission system reliability analysis to support the development of transmission solutions for system operations and generation/load interconnection studies. All work must meet all applicable NERC, ERCOT, and Sharyland Planning criteria. The Transmission Planning Engineer will ensure that the assets of Sharyland Utilities are properly submitted to ERCOT and coordinate with multiple parties (both internal and external to Sharyland Utilities) to ensure the completion of all planning studies. As experience increases, the responsibility level will increase, as well as greater independence of judgment is expected with respect to standard solution problems. This position is hybrid, with in-office work expected 3 days/week.

Responsibilities:



  • Review power system analyses, including steady state, dynamic, short-circuit, and/or transient stability and networking planning
  • Coordinate system-wide power flow analysis, including steady-state, dynamic stability, and short-circuit analysis
  • Perform due diligence for capital projects by reviewing interconnection agreements/scope documents and identifying associated risks
  • Assist with interconnection applications and supporting documentation for projects within the ERCOT market
  • Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes
  • Create, edit, and submit Sharyland data into all applicable ERCOT Working Groups
  • Collaborate with clients and team members on project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
  • Contribute to the team's research and innovation activities in terms of the development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team's performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements


Required Skills & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Other engineering degrees will be considered based on industry relevance.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience, including:

    • In-depth understanding of the fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy
    • Proficiency in system studies and network simulation software such as PSS/E, Powerworld, and/or ASPEN
    • Direct work experience in transmission and/or distribution planning-related analyses in transmission planning and/or resource interconnection

  • Experience contributing to model development and performing system studies and analyses
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and collaborate with clients and team members on project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
  • Initiative, self-motivation, and a commitment to meeting deadlines while exceeding client expectations
  • Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets, grid interconnection, and corresponding planning practices, including resource integration studies, NERC standards, and ISO/RTO resource interconnection model requirements. ERCOT experience preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to rent and drive a car, and travel for company business
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

Preferred Skills & Experience:



  • Graduate-level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems
  • Hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages, including PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSCAD, and ASPEN
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in Power System engineering outside of an academic setting
  • Working knowledge of software packages like Python or VBA
  • Experience performing one or more of the studies: Power flow studies, Breaker Adequacy studies, Transient Stability studies, Resource planning studies, forward-looking analysis
