Description

As a Welding Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the Welding Instructors by measuring, cutting and grinding material. You will also perform maintenance, warranty and emergency repairs.

Successful candidates for this role must have good communication skills, with safety as a top priority.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Measuring, cutting, grinding material, and maintaining tools and equipment
  • Identifying maintenance risks on welding equipment and notify operators of potential malfunction
  • Maintain coolant in the Marvel cutting machine
  • Maintenance and repair of equipment and welding booths
  • Replace compressed gas tanks as needed
  • Performing emergency back-up support to other areas of the department



Required Education and Experience:



  • High school diploma / GED
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must possess a clean driving record



Supervisory Responsibility:



  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.



Work Environment: This job operates occasionally in a professional office environment; however, position frequently operates within a variety of power and utility plants. Position will entail frequent exposure to varying conditions with exposure to any or all of the following: Heat, Cold, Heights, Dust, Dirt, Indoor, Outdoors, and Confined Areas.

    • Lifting under 40 lbs.

    • Lifting over 40 lbs.
    • Climbing ladders
    • Typing and computer input
    • Stooping, walking, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing

    • Clarity of vision at both over 20 feet and under 20 inches
    • Able to judge depth, have a good field of vision, and identify and distinguish colors.

    • Climbing stairs

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM. May be requested to work overtime as determined by the needs of the department, overtime may be required during certain seasons throughout the year.
