Location: Fort Smith, Arkansas - Department of Energy

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Compensation: $41.95 - $41.95 per hour

Tessera is seeking an experienced and hard working Heavy Equipment Mechanic with a positive attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform maintenance/overhauls/repairs on automotive and engineering equipment, including passenger-carrying vehicles, light and heavy trucks, trailers, Safeguards Transporter Trailer, Armored Tractor, Escort Vehicles, Support Vehicles, and other equipment.

  • Perform minor and major repairs and services as outlined in established technical manuals.

  • Perform inspection and repair on brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs, and steering systems.

  • Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring, and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair during annual services.

  • Perform major repair jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, removing components, and installing assemblies and installation of components.

  • Perform work order repairs, inspections and adjustments, and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

  • Will provide two (2) person control on all sensitive items.

  • Clean and service vehicles with fuel.

  • Keep accurate trip logs.

  • Provide assistance loading and unloading equipment, properly storing and inventorying equipment parts and supplies.

  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow procedural manuals, lube orders, and wiring to ensure proper diagnosis and repair during scheduled services.

  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate, and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements, and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.

  • Must exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.

  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of daily work.

  • Communicating with customers - always be courteous and communicate in a professional manner when talking with customers.

  • Responsible for the proper storage, use, and distribution of classified material and equipment.

  • Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs.

  • Maintain professionalism both in appearance and in demeanor.

  • Must be able to travel for temporary assignments for up to 6 weeks, working 10 - 12 hour days, variable shifts, and endure exposure to the elements/seasons.

Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of automotive maintenance experience preferred.

  • ASE certification or equivalent preferred.

  • Must be knowledgeable in the maintenance of fleet vehicles and equipment.

  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow technical manuals to ensure proper diagnosis and repair.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.

  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance company.

  • Candidate must meet federal guidelines to be considered for this position - Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment drug screening, medical examination certification, and cleared query with the FMCSA Clearinghouse are required.

  • A Department of Energy (DOE) pre-employment drug screening is required. Candidates must meet federal guidelines in order to be considered for this position.
