Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The mission of the Division of Student Success is to work in partnership with the University community to deliver high quality services to facilitate the recruitment, retention and graduation of a diverse student population and strive to provide service, leadership, and transitional student support for UNCG. The Division of Student Success is committed to designing, implementing, and providing the services necessary to promote student success throughout the entire student life cycle from day one to diploma. This division includes the offices of University Advising, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience, Students First Office, Academic Achievement Center, TRiO Programs, UNCG Guarantee, GEAR UP UNCG, the Communication Lab, and the Math Help Center.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of the Math Help Center at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro will support the Director of the Math Help Center in overseeing and enhancing the center's operations. They will assist the Director with leadership and support for free tutoring services offered to UNCG students enrolled in math, statistics, computer science, physics courses, as well as any university course that utilizes mathematical or statistical computation. The Assistant Director will ensure the center's commitment to academic excellence and student success through both in-person and virtual tutoring programs. This role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of both the physical and online Math Help Center, developing, and implementing tutoring programs, engaging with students and faculty, and continuously assessing and improving the services offered.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Psychology or a closely related STEM or Health Professions field.
  • At least one year of experience in academic support services, tutoring, or teaching at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student-centered tutoring approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and learning management systems.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Education, or a related field or at least three years of experience in a supervisor role in academic support services, tutoring, or teaching at the collegiate level.
  • Proficiency with digital platforms, such as Microsoft 365 and online tutoring tools.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and strategies for supporting a diverse student population.
  • Experience in curriculum development and working with faculty to integrate mathematics and statistics support in coursework.
  • Record of engaging in research or assessment related to student success effectiveness and student outcomes.
