Job Summary

The Manager of Engineering - Racing will lead a team of both direct reports and matrixed representatives from supporting business functions to develop and deliver advanced vehicle performance. In this role you will deliver solutions to performance requirements defined by the crew chief(s) of the Harley-Davidson Factory Race Team. You will balance priorities from all of H-D's racing initiatives to deliver solutions that are safe, effective, and fast. Additionally, this engineering team will be responsible for developing racing solutions into deliverable HDFR product accessories and limited-edition vehicles. You will define, prioritize, resource, test, and deliver solutions, motorcycles, and accessories that perform beyond expectations and redefine what is possible. This role may be required to split time onsite at both our Product Development Center in Wauwatosa, WI and our Corporate Headquarters on Juneau Ave. in Milwaukee, WI.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build a winning team.
  • Lead the technical development of H-D's factory racing motorcycle systems.
  • Develop a deep bench of talent that understands all aspects of performance, including vehicle dynamics, engine performance, electronic control strategies, and team performance.
  • Develop solutions to racing vehicle requirements and use-cases.
  • Define a product development roadmap to improve the on-track performance of H-D's factory racing motorcycles, and limited-edition accessories and motorcycles.
  • Recruit, manage, and develop a team of people to execute and deliver the roadmap.
  • Establish a process to systematically communicate race learnings back into the broader H-D Engineering organization with the goal to enhance OE vehicles.

Bachelor's Degree Required
Education Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related technical field is Required. Master's Degree is Preferred (technical or MBA).

Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of relevant powersport development experience. In addition, they will have demonstrated the following:



  • Creative approach to solving problems and ability to own issue resolution from data collection, data analysis, root cause identification, solution set generation, and selection of optimal solution.
  • Success coordinating teams of internal stakeholders and partners to meet aggressive quality and performance objectives.
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner in high pressure, dynamic environments.
  • The ability to build a culture with the willingness to step outside of immediate job responsibilities whilst supporting a cohesive team.
  • Experience leading small to large-scale development efforts and proven success delivering these products to market.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly results-oriented and focused on business/team priorities with a successful record of accomplishments.
  • Excellent stakeholder relationship management skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments concurrently, including ability to assess and manage priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to support testing/development activities.
  • Motorcycle license.



Preferred Experience:



  • Racing product development experience in a leadership role supporting a high-level racing team such as those competing in AMA Superbike, NASCAR, IndyCar, F1, British Superbike, MotoGP, etc.
  • Knowledge of chassis systems dynamics (ideally motorcycle chassis dynamics).
  • Knowledge of engine dynamics (ideally V-Twin engine dynamics) and performance tuning.
  • Prior experience a racing Crew Chief, preferable motorcycle.
  • Familiarity with working directly riders/racers and distilling feedback into actionable changes and development plans/priorities.
  • Advanced motorcycle riding skills.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
