Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The School of Education oversees the university's educator preparation program (
EPP). The
EPP is multifaceted and provides many services and programming in the area of teacher education. The overarching goal of the School of Education is to prepare students for careers in Education. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The central role of this position is to support and oversee the alternative licensure pathways including the Teacher Assistant to Teaching Professional (TA2TP) pathway offered by the School of Education (
SOE). Focus on student recruitment, retention, and pathway completion through exemplary customer service and collaboration is mandatory. Alternative licensure pathways include Licensure-Only and Residency Licensure. For these pathways, the position fields inquiries from prospective students, assists during the admissions process, collaborates with program and transfer coordinators to review transcripts and establish plans of study, offers advisement, and ensures students are matriculating toward plan of study completion in a timely manner.
Regarding the TA2TP pathway, the position leads collaborative efforts with local and regional school districts that facilitate the recruitment, retention, and graduation of currently employed instructional assistants. Degree programs most frequently pursued by students through the TA2TP pathway are elementary education and middle grade education. The position collaborates with the coordinators of these program to ensure students are assigned an advisor and support is provided to all students as necessary. The position is a liaison between the
SOE and school districts and serves as the primary point of contact for students enrolled in degree programs via the TA2TP pathway.
The position also assists all students (former and current) in the acquisition of K-12 licensure via the NC Department of Public Instruction (
NCDPI). In this work, the position facilitates the review and recommendation process for students applying for licensure. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Knowledge of and skillful in Microsoft Word, Excel, and OneDrive; Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines. Skill in written and oral communication. Ability to assess student and program needs. Skilled in engaging students to ensure success. Ability to develop an academic plan of action to help students complete their plan of study and obtain their teaching license. Knowledge of the NC Alternative Licensure policies and processes. Ability to present data and key program information to students and major stakeholders. Ability to deliver training and workshops to students. Ability to collaborate and serve as a team player in a collective effort to meet the needs of the academic unit. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Master's degree from an accredited university in business, public administration or related field with 2-3 years of experience working at the Graduate Program Level is preferred; or a combination of education, training, and experience in a related field. Knowledge of graduate and Professional degree programs and resources Experience implementing workshops, orientations and/or conferences, and recruitment activities. |

Create correspondences, reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Utilize OneDrive and other tools within the myEOL platform to house and share student records with stakeholders as necessary. Establish a system for checks and balances to ensure all aspects of coordination are carried out efficiently and effectively. Assess and review applications and supplemental documents submitted by potential applicants. Apply university policies related to confidentiality and
FERPA. Manage students' records from admission and enrollment to pathway completion. For students applying for licensure, manages records and ensures all are in order prior to recommendation. |
