POSITION SPECIFICS

The Sciamanna Lab at Penn State College of Medicine within the Department of Medicine in Hershey, PA is seeking a Human Research Technologist. The Sciamanna Lab's overarching mission is to double the percentage of American adults who are physically active each week, from less than 10% to more than 20%. To accomplish this mission, the Sciamanna Lab designs and tests specific physical activity programs to engineer programs that are effective, have high rates of adherence, and are designed to be scalable to every region of the US. This work is done primarily with funding from grants from the National Institutes of Health, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), as well as other federal, state, and University funders. This position will work in a research support role, working with other faculty and research study staff, as well as exercise instructors working on the research project, funded by Dr. Sciamanna's research grants.

Responsibilities include: Recruit subjects, describing study procedures, risks, benefits, and eligibility requirements, schedule and/or complete data collection assessments/measurements; complete virtual exercise instruction interventions as outlined in the study protocol; maintain participant database, maintain Sciamanna laboratory supplies and equipment, including activPAL4 accelerometers (e.g., initialize for use, download data, validate data after downloading), draft IRB protocols and consent forms; assure the collection of subject data based on protocol, serve as liaison with Principal Investigator and Human Subjects Protection Office, complete and submit Institutional Review Board paperwork and modifications, interface with support departments that may be involved in protocols, study start-up, recruitment, and close-out (e.g., Allegra, Exercise Research Center, Mailing Services)

The ideal candidate will have the desire and capacity to work with both technology and human subjects and past experience coordinating activities for various community-based studies, as well as the desire the play a leadership role in the aforementioned activities. This includes recruitment and enrollment of research study subjects, interpersonal interaction with study subjects and/or community members, consenting research study subjects, and follow-up phone calls as well as email correspondence with study subjects. In addition to experience, the candidate will also have the following traits: detail-oriented, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and strong organizational skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Human Research Technologist - Health and Medicine - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Human Research Technologist - Health and Medicine - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Associate Degree 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Human Research Technologist - Health and Medicine - Professional, this position requires: Associate Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $38,300.00 - $67,300.00.
