TITLE Coordinator, Strategic Programming and Initiatives JOB SUMMARY The Coordinator, Strategic Programming and Initiatives engages in research, design, and implementation of strategic programs and initiatives specifically related to a.) Transition/first-year students, b.) Retention of students in both honors programs at all levels, and c.) Enhancing program completion and graduation rates for both programs. The position serves as the primary "intake" specialist whose programming for new students is based on data from national research models and best practices to maximize students' likelihood of continuation and completion of TWU's honors programs. The position carries the primary responsibility for designing and implementing effective new student mentoring, orientation, retreat, and UNIV special initiatives and manages the budget allocation for these initiatives. The position also carries the primary responsibility for supporting and tracking honors student research productivity. Responsible for working with students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Executive Director, Honors Programs Supervises: Student Assistants and (part-time) Senior Secretary ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following: * Oversees designing & implementing data-driven, research-based transfer/FYE retention, completion, and graduation initiatives consistent with national and regional best practices. * Manages departmental budget allocation for these initiatives. * Assists Executive Director in compiling retention, completion, and graduation data and in producing reports that evaluate the program's effectiveness in comparison to peer institutions. * Supervises up to four student assistants and one .50 FTE Senior Secretary. * Supports production and publication of student research and creative works by assisting students with the submission process for national, regional, and local conferences and publications. * Compiles data on honors student research productivity. * Supervises production of honors research journal (Off the Quill). * Coordinates Honors LLC and other housing initiatives for FYE and sophomore students. * Supervises honors student committees as assigned. * Attends honors events, Honors Advisory Council meetings, and honors student association meetings. * Serves as staff support for domestic and overseas travel. ADDITIONAL DUTIES * Performs other duties as requested. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in higher education preferred. EXPERIENCE Two years of experience required. Additional education may substitute for experience. REQUIREMENT Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential: * Ability to conduct research into honors education national trends and best practices and design program initiatives for retention, completion, and program growth based on that research. * Ability to coordinate work with other employees in the department providing direct instruction or supervision as assigned. * Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies. * Ability to organize work effectively, compile clear and coherent research reports, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. * Working knowledge of office practices and methods. * Ability to communicate effectively by phone, in person, and in writing. * Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner. * Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.
