Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.07 to $33.00/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $28.07 to $48.28/hour.
Work Location: Humanities and Social Sciences Building - 1107
Working Days and Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; Some nights and weekends required.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Technical Director (TD), the Scene Shop Manager oversees the scenic, painting and properties area. Responsible for the execution and installation of scenic and properties designs related to the department's season for theater and dance productions. In conjunction with the TD, is responsible for pricing and buying necessary supplies for both production and shop needs. Maintains scene shop equipment and oversees safe practices in shop. Responsible for stage properties inventories. Responsible for the hiring and supervision of limited staff and student employees. Responsible for the supervision of student assistants assigned to this area. Teaches and supervises student labs and evaluates their work for grading purposes. Works closely with other shop supervisors and assists them when requested. May serve as technical director and/or production supervisor for departmental productions. Also, assists, as time permits, with scenic construction, scenic painting and/or stage properties for classroom-related productions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 1-3 years of experience: Three years practical experience with strong carpentry, rigging, welding, and technical skills.
- 1-3 years of experience: Ability to interpret working technical drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of demonstrated competency collaborating with faculty, staff, and students in educational environment.
- Mastery level knowledge of technical aspects of properties, scenery, scenic treatment, etc.
- Possess strong leadership, communication, organizational, and mentoring skills.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- 40% Scenic Production - Coordinates activities related to the scenic construction, scenic painting, and stage property units of the Department of Theater and Dance. Responsible for the proper execution and installation of scenic and properties designs related to the department's season for theater and dance productions. May serve as technical director and/or production supervisor for departmental productions. Also, assists, as time permits, with scenic construction, scenic painting and/or stage properties for classroom-related productions.
- 30% Supervision/ Student Labs - Coordinates, trains, and supervises student construction labs. Evaluates student lab work for grading purposes. Supervises student assistants assigned to this area. Hires and supervises limited and student employees. Directs career employees when assigned to this area.
- 15% Maintenance/ Facilities - Maintains shop facilities, supplies, and equipment while evaluating and proposing future improvements. Oversees Properties inventory. In conjunction with Technical Director, may help in coordination of properties check out and rentals. Supervises facilities during rehearsals and performances when assigned.
- 10% Safety - Provides and documents training in the safe and proper use of shop equipment and supplies for those working in this area. Maintains SDS sheets and binder so that it remains updated and accurate.
- 5% Budget and Scheduling - Plans and schedules the construction, painting, and installation of scenic and property elements. In conjunction with the Technical Director, may help estimate costs of scenic and property elements for productions. Helps maintain budgets for scenic area. Other duties as assigned.
