Accountabilities
The Music Department at Colgate University invites applications for an experienced violinist to serve as Concertmaster of the Colgate University Orchestra beginning fall, 2025.
Requirements for the Colgate University Orchestra are: attendance at all rehearsals and 4 concerts per year, leading 8 violin sectionals per year and hearing auditions and the concerto competition. . Professional Experience/ Qualifications

  • The concertmaster is the principal first violinist and is considered the leader of the entire


violin section, often acting as a liaison between the conductor and the orchestra.

  • Experience as a concertmaster and leader of a professional orchestra required.
  • Responsible for all bowing of the orchestral music.
  • Working collegially with the conductor.
  • Act as a conduit between the conductor and the orchestra.

Preferred Qualifications
Senior-level performance experience with a professional orchestra.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Music is required, Master's Degree preferred.

Rehearsal and Attendance Requirements:

  • Orchestra rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening.
  • Attendance at Wednesday evening rehearsals is mandatory.
  • Members are also required to attend 8 Monday rehearsals per year, with the schedule determined at the beginning of each semester.
