Job Summary

Under general supervision, serve as the nancial analyst, compliance ocer and resource to the CAO and Chair. Conduct nancial analysis and effort reporting and participate in the nancial planning for a wide variety of federal grants. Gather, manage and analyze nancial data from a variety of revenue streams, including state general funds, state and federal grants, private grants, gifts, and other funding sources. Monitor and maintain departmental, research and project accounts associated with the annual operating budget. Departmental compliance expert in the University policy and procedure for all departmental business processes. Principal trainer and resource for business oce staff on nancial procedures and policy. Assist the CAO in long-range nancial planning and forecasting. Responsible for pre- and post- award processes, budget preparation, analysis, and forecasting, and for control of complex budgets. Serve as back-up to the MSO in their absence. Co-supervise student assistant help. Assist department by backing up co-workers and helping with projects as needed. The incumbent of this position works in an independent manner, providing advice and guidance to the Chair, CAO, PI's, etc., and works closely with the Dean's Oce, Oce of Research Business Contracts, Accounting and Financial Services, sponsoring agencies, and other external parties (subcontractors, consultants, etc.) to facilitate the timely submission of proposals to expedite the transfer of awards. Serves on campus and college wide committees associated with nancial management matters.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience in nancial analysis, forecasting and strategic planning to analyze and compile nancial data and reports.
  • Experience in budget preparation based on narrative methodological research plans and designs, analysis, and forecasting with skill to control complex budgets
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate and interact with Dean's Oces, campus departments, Principal Investigators, CAO, staff, and students to ensure compliance with UCD policy and procedures.
  • Organizational skills to work with changing priorities and demanding workload to independently manage and monitor multiple accounts simultaneously and to meet multiple and variable priorities and deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze complex data and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems including analytical skills to proficiently assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with many internal parties in a large organizational structure
  • Proficient in Excel using pivot tables, advanced functions and formulas to solve complex problems and streamline processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with UC Davis accounting, purchasing, entertainment, travel, and business management practices.
  • Skills, and Abilities (KSA): Knowledge of UC Davis hiring/employment practices within an academic department.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, cost allocation methods, and accounting policies and procedures in an academic environment.

Department Overview

The Department of Computer Science is a large complex research unit, one of eight academic departments in the College of Engineering, and provides instruction and research within specialty areas of engineering. The Department has 43 faculty, 9 emeriti, 3 adjunct professors, 3 technical IT Support staff, and 14 administrative staff. The Graduate Group of Computer Science administers three graduate programs: B.S.-to-M.S, M.S. and Ph.D. with approximately 500+ graduate students and supports nearly 100 graduate group faculty. Faculty in the Graduate Group of Computer Science have primary appointments in multiple disciplines including Engineering, School of Medicine, Graduate School of Management, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Physics, Math, Sociology, to name a few.. The Undergraduate program has over 1300 students within 2 programs (CS and CSE). The Graduate Group receives funding in excess of $4M, the Department Operational budget is in excess of $3M, and the faculty expenditures averages ~$6M. Computer Science has a large undergraduate student service component. CS teaches over 13,000 students per year (over 54,000 SCH) with students from various programs across campus.

Work Environment
