Posting Summary
A new faculty Instructor position is available in the lab of Dr. Michal Schnaider Beeri, PhD in Krieger Klein Alzheimer's Research Center at the Brain Health Institute, and the Institute of Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research. The Instructor will conduct studies of Alzheimer's disease and related dementia, supervise incoming research staff, and provide outreach, recruitment, education, and community engagement in order to integrate the community into the center's research processes.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • In consultation with the PI, design experiments with high rigor, using best practices, to answer questions about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • Lead applications of health services research grants regarding care access, care delivery, and care quality in relation to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, especially among underserved populations.
  • Assist with research compliance activities, including communications with funders (i.e. NIH), maintaining up-to-date research training and certification for the lab, IRB applications, and other activities.
  • Manage communication with national and international collaborators.
  • Document research activities, maintain a database of up-to-date research protocols, and manage and organize large datasets that have been generated in the service of research projects. Develop SOPs for the lab. Maintain records of computational pipelines used to process and analyze large datasets.
  • Supervise undergraduates, technicians, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals, present at national and international conferences, and contribute to the writing of grants.
  • Perform various research activities related to collecting behavior/cognitive data.
  • Participates, as needed, in community events that promote education on brain/mental health and assist with participant recruitment.
  • Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology, and coordination of the analytical and procedural functions with the clinical and research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
  • Identifies and engages with people with dementia, their caregivers, and the community to recruit and retain for research studies.
  • Develops and provides educational programs for the public, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitates communication between the center and the community, particularly for understudied or at-risk populations.
  • Integrates patients, caregivers, and community organizations into the research process.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a related field (nursing, psychiatry, psychology, etc.), plus experience in blood collection and processing of research participants. Training and experience of physical examinations, especially neurological exams, are preferred. Experience with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, cognitive aging, and health services research is preferred. Multilingual skills are preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
Health professional licenses are preferred (e.g., RN and APN licenses).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A PhD in a related field (nursing, psychiatry, psychology, etc.),
  • Experience in blood collection and processing of research participants.
  • Training and experience of physical examinations, especially neurological exams, are preferred.
  • Experience with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, cognitive aging, and health services research is preferred.
  • Multilingual skills are preferred.
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm in helping achieve successful implementation of the new Cohort and contributing to cutting-edge science.
  • Experience with MS Office suite and other standard office software.
  • Experience with Web conferencing programs such as Zoom.
  • Experience with collaborative documents and programs such as Google Docs
