Welding Expert ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE BUSINESS: Leslie Controls, Inc LOCATION: Tampa, FL DIRECT REPORTING: Principal Materials Engineer FUNCTIONAL REPORTING: OTE POSITION DETAILS Position Summary As a Welding Expert, you will be responsible for optimizing welding processes, ensuring quality compliance, and training welders to enhance overall proficiency. This role focuses on reducing nonconformance through trend analysis, improving welding efficiency, and optimizing equipment utilization. Your expertise in welding techniques, metallurgy, and quality assurance will contribute to the production of high-quality welded components for industrial applications. Principal Activities Welder Training & Development
- Train and mentor welders on best practices, techniques, and safety standards.
- Develop and implement standardized work instructions for welding processes.
- Conduct skill assessments and recommend training programs for workforce development.
Process Improvement & Optimization
- Analyze welding processes to identify and implement efficiency improvements.
- Optimize welding parameters and techniques to ensure high-quality, defect-free welds.
- Work with engineering and production teams to refine welding methods and reduce cycle times.
Nonconformance Reduction & Quality Assurance
- Perform root cause analysis on welding defects and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and analyze weld quality trends to proactively address potential issues.
- Ensure compliance with welding codes, standards (AWS, ASME, ISO), and customer requirements.
Equipment Utilization & Maintenance
- Monitor welding equipment performance and recommend improvements.
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of welding machines and tools.
- Evaluate and implement new welding technologies to improve efficiency and quality.
General Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee welding operations, including MIG, TIG, Stick, and automated welding.
- Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering specifications.
- Maintain accurate documentation of welding procedures, qualifications, and inspections.
- Support Operational Excellence and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements:
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive experience in welding processes, techniques, and metallurgy.
- Strong understanding of welding codes, standards, and procedures (AWS, ASME, ISO).
- Proficiency in welding various metals, including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys.
- Ability to analyze data and implement process improvements based on trend analysis.
- Strong leadership and training skills with experience mentoring welders.
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic, radiographic, and dye penetrant inspection.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Internal Auditing experience is a plus
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) preferred.
- Five or more years of experience in welding, process improvement, or training.
- Formal welding training or certification from a recognized institution preferred.
