Overview

The Watanabe Lab at New York Institute of Technology, College of Osteopathic Medicine (Long Island) Department of Anatomy invites applications for a two year postdoctoral position.

NYITCOM's Anatomy Department includes 9 full-time faculty with active research programs in computational biomechanics, evolution and development, and neurosensory anatomy. The successful applicant will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities including: a Visualization Center equipped with micro-CT scanner, Amira workstations, 3D printers, portable laser surface scanners, and microscopy; a tissue staining lab for histology and staining; an embryology lab for in vivo experiments; a microscopy facility with confocal microscopes; both human and animal gait labs for collecting kinematic, force profile, and EMG data; a fully staffed animal care center, and a new Center for Biomedical Innovations for robotics, VR, and AR. NYITCOM enjoys close proximity to major research institutions such as the American Museum of Natural History, Stony Brook University, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will conduct grant-funded research investigating brain and skull development and evolution in avian systems using modern imaging, morphometric, and molecular techniques. The position will include opportunities to mentor undergraduate and medical students and assist with development of educational initiatives, such as a short hand-on lab curriculum, 3-D printing, and/or virtual reality.



Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the start date. Applicants who have completed all degree requirements for a Ph.D. will also be considered. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated interest and expertise in vertebrate anatomy, evolutionary biology, computed-tomography (CT) imaging, immunofluorescence techniques, embryology, microscopy, geometric morphometrics, and/or programming.
