Clinical Research Assistant

The Department of
Ophthalmology is looking to hire a detail oriented, self-motivated, reliable
undergraduate student interested in gaining clinical research experience
including optical study of blood vessels in the human eye.
Join Dr. Elizabeth Cretara at
the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in investigating how
hormone replacement therapy in perimenopausal women may influence ocular blood
vessel density.

What You'll Do

• Student will work with Dr. Cretara and other experts in
  ocular imaging for approximately one year.
• Primary goal will be to gain expertise in optical
  coherence tomography angiography image analysis through a funded
  externship at the University of Washington in Seattle and then bring these
  critical skills back to our lab to support our ongoing research.
• Additionally, you will have opportunity to learn
  clinical research skills, including patient contact.

• Collaborate with researchers and physicians from
  different scientific backgrounds.
  Participate in abstract presentation and/or manuscript
  publication.

Job Duties:

• Oversee data analysis of optical coherence tomography
  angiography in our laboratory after training period and with ongoing
  technical support from University of Washington in Seattle.
• Work closely with biostatistician to ensure accurate
  data is provided for analysis.
• Help with screening of subjects; including calling
  potential subjects and collecting data to determine eligibility for the
  study
• Conducts and records face-to-face and/or telephone interview
  with subjects, in accordance with predetermined interview protocol, data
  collection procedures, and documentation standards.
• Participant data management and record keeping per IRB
  guidelines.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred
Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a degree seeking

• Interested in biomedical or visual science, prior
  experience with data analysis is a plus.
• Detail-oriented and is able to commit entire year to
  project.
