I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION


Job Description Summary:
The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity, in the Department of Health Policy and Management, is seeking an Institute Associate to perform research and provide support across various projects related to workforce issues. Specifically focusing on initiatives such as the Social Mission Metrics Initiative ( SMMI) and the Health Workforce Diversity Initiative, in addition to the evaluation of various research methods related to health equity, workforce distributions, and the impact of the Supreme Court's affirmative action on higher education admissions.

Responsibilities will include supporting a variety of projects focused on the diversity of the healthcare workforce with tasks such as assisting with federal data set quality procedures, creating data visualizations for reports and presentations, and reviewing, summarizing, and analyzing reports and manuscripts.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting with research survey administration and management using Qualtrics and other CRM software (e.g., Salesforce)
  • Helping manage team logistics and communications
  • Collaborate on developing monitoring and evaluation tools for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of research findings
  • Assist with data quality procedures, including:

    • Evaluating large datasets for consistency, completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness
    • Assisting with qualitative data collection (e.g., key informant interviews, focus groups)
    • Assist with cleaning, understanding, transforming, and analyzing datasets with an emphasis on federal datasets
    • Assist with Identifying and correcting data entry errors



  • Assist with summarizing results for inclusion in scientific and clientele-oriented publications, including the development of graphs and tables
  • Assist with reviewing, summarizing, and analyzing technical publications, reports, and manuscripts,
  • Submitting and tracking IRB related functions.
  • Assist with conducting literature reviews
  • Setting up and managing communication with participants and institutions

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in social mission, public health, health workforce, healthcare education, or health policy
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, Qualtrics, and STATA
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  • Excellent communication, analytic, and organizational skills
  • Sharp attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work within deadlines
  • High degree of professionalism and demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-sector project partners
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Experience with quantitative research methods
  • Experience using Tableau or other data visualization tools

Hiring Range $20.99 - $32.53
