We are seeking a Senior Manager, Software Development that will be responsible for the development, release, and maintenance of commercial and/or internal software. They direct and manage software life cycles, including development, testing, release, and maintenance of software applications according to Specific Diagnostics' business needs. They lead and direct the work of others, and are responsible for building and motivating project teams. A wide degree of initiative, creativity, and latitude is expected in this role, as is significant interaction with the department directors and company leadership. They are expected to collaborate effectively with people of all levels across the company, manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery of software solutions. Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for software development projects.
The Senior Manager, Software Development will be an excellent project manager. They are expected to mentor project managers on their team, helping them develop leadership experience and skills needed to successfully complete complex software development projects
Primary Duties:
  • Documentation:
    • Collect, write, and analyze software requirements.
    • Write and/or edit design documentation related to newly developed or updated software.
    • Write and/or edit documentation for general and technical audiences.
    • Implement and maintain documentation standards for software development, including requirements, design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Consult with manufacturing, quality, scientific, engineering, and other staff to evaluate and implement software.
    • Communicate, collaborate, and negotiate with other Specific Diagnostics' employees at all levels across the company.
    • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Testing and Monitoring:
    • Ensure software is sufficiently tested to meet customer needs.
    • Monitor and control the progress of software development projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and milestones.
    • Track project progress and performance using project management tools and techniques, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Project Management:
    • Develop detailed project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, and resource allocation.
    • Determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
    • Identify and manage project risks, developing mitigation strategies to address potential issues.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of software development efforts with overall project goals.
    • Manage project budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial constraints.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to identify and implement process enhancements.
    • Utilize software development tools and platforms to streamline workflows and enhance productivity
  • Principal Decisions:
    • Propose department and team goals.
    • Determine the feasibility of software proposals.
    • Determine job assignments to meet management goals.
    • Determine job assignments to meet development goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another related field preferred. PLUS 10 years in Software Development
OR Masters Degree in in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another related field preferred. PLUS 8 years in Software Development
  • 5+ years of Managerial experience.
  • 5+ years of Medical Device experience:
    • IEC 62304 and IEC 14971 for software lifecycle and risk management
    • Medical device regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).
    • 1+ years of experience with Agile methodologies and practices (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
    • 2 + years' experience of C# for developing robust and scalable applications.
    • 2+ years' experience with Python for scripting, automation, and data analysis
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
      • Ability to mentor and develop team members.

      • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
      • Ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges.

    The estimated salary range for this role based in California is between $162,400 - 194,900. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux's bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate's experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
