What You'll Do in This Position

Purpose of Position

Participants will be enrolled in a Registered Youth Apprenticeship Program for approximately 1 to 2 years to foster skill attainment and earn a nationally recognized and portable credential through the Department of Labor. Under direct supervision, Youth Apprentices will receive on-the-job training to learn cost control, planning and scheduling, estimating and financial analysis basic principles and functions in support of a facilities operation, outage for maintenance or significant project work activity.
Youth Apprentices will observe Project Controls professionals perform routine planning, scheduling, analysis, and support functions. The Youth Apprentice will work toward being able to perform these functions without supervision.
The Youth Apprentice will be mentored on an approved list of project controls tasks with the goal to become proficient in each.
These tasks focus on:
* Project controls general employee knowledge
* Scheduling System
* Cost Processing
* Earned Value Management System
* Monthly Reporting
* Safety, communications, and procedure compliance
Additional work will be assigned as the Youth Apprentice demonstrates the ability to handle more complex tasks.
The work schedule will be flexible and based around the Youth Apprentice's academic schedule. The Youth Apprentice may work up to 40 hours per week during school breaks. The Youth Apprentice may only work when adult supervision is available. This position is not eligible for telework.

Major Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, gain a basic understanding of financial analysis activities, which include, but are not limited to:
- Collect data, inputs updates and produces basic cost management and commitment control (encumbrance) reports. Provides data input to scheduling, progress, and performance measurement systems.
- Assist in performing forecasts, identifying variances and documenting causes
- Assist in performing budget versus actual analysis, identifying variances and documenting causes. Gain the ability to present findings to financial and operational management.
- Research unexpected items and resolves inaccuracies. Learn to identify and propose and record journal vouchers.
- Develop and maintains familiarity with scheduling/cost/accounting basic terminology as well as its principles and concepts. (to include understanding of funds and management variances).
- Provide administrative services in addition to assisting senior personnel in the development of budgets, reports and assigned activities.
- Gain understanding of and ensures that all work performed adheres to SRNS policies and procedures. Comply with team processes and practices for execution of assigned tasks.
- Proactively communicate and coordinate with others to provide support for assigned tasks
- Develop and maintain technical expertise in assigned Specialty
- Complete assigned administrative tasks in a timely and quality fashion
- Other duties as assigned

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

Enrolled in high school as a rising junior or senior in pursuit of a diploma

Other Qualifications

* U.S. Citizen
* Shall be at least 16 years of age
* Must be a rising high school junior or senior in pursuit of a diploma
* Must successfully complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training and substance abuse processing
* Must possess a driver's license with their own transportation (required by hire date)
* Unofficial transcripts are required and must be uploaded into BrassRing before the posting closes
