The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures. This position is for the role of Distribution Integrity Engineer that reports to the Cincinnati Headquarters. Distribution Integrity Engineers perform analysis of our circuits and implement reliability improvement projects that help ensure safety, reliability, and financial objectives are met. This position supports communication across internal departments within the distribution organization. This position functions as a subject matter expert on the assets and programs that are assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.

  • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.

  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.

  • Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.

  • Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

  • Initiate and sponsor distribution capital projects to satisfy the reliability needs of the distribution system.

  • Provide technical support for other internal organizations. Provide recommendations and scope of work for distribution reliability and grid improvement programs.

Note: This posting is for one position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

Basic/Required Qualifications (Engineer I)

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.

Basic/Required Qualifications (Engineer II)

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.

  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.

  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management.

  • Experience in the utility industry.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.

Specific Requirements

  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
