Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Pharmacy Manager within the Rutgers Cancer Institute-Pharmacy Department.

The Research Pharmacy Manager functions as a higher level, Lead Pharmacist to manage the day-to-day operational needs of the Research Pharmacy's investigational drug service ( IDS). The Research Pharmacy Manager assists in developing and reviewing pharmacy policies and procedures relevant to the daily operations of the IDS. Approximately 100% of the Research Pharmacy Manager's time is spent administering his/her skills and knowledge in this specialized are of practice, i.e. research.

Among the key duties for this position are the following:

  • Provides accurate drug information regarding investigational agents to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, technicians, patients and other health care personnel as needed to establish best practices.
  • Makes key recommendations and perform higher level responsibilities to assist in the effective operations of the Investigational Drug Service of the Research Pharmacy Shared Resource as determined by the Department Director or Faculty Administrator.
  • Functions as a lead position in the department providing work direction to Pharmacists, Technicians and support staff to ensure quality pharmaceutical services are delivered within the facility in accordance with FDA, Federal, State, Facility and University Standards.
  • Administers specialized skills and care to a particular service in his/her area of specialization (Clinical Oncology Research).
  • The Research Pharmacy Manager will be instrumental in developing and credentialing all facility staff with regards to the use of medications in his/her specialized area of practice. For example: Registered with Institution 1572, Trained in NCI/CTEP standards and meets CFR for handling investigational agents (Citi Training).

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Must be licensed and registered by the New Jersey State Board Pharmacy.
  • Five (5) years' experience as a licensed, practicing pharmacist is required.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power Point. CitiTraining.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant specialized experience including either a general residency (PGY1), specialty residency (PGY2), or Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP), preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
  • No special vision requirements.
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment. Moderate noise.
  • Good conditions, IV preparation exposes employee to "clean" needle stick injury.
  • Chemotherapy preparation requires some exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and medications.
  • Detailed procedures including the use of protective apparatus and equipment are followed to minimize or eliminate exposure.
  • Occasional off-hours phone or email contacts to resolve patient related investigational agent needs.
