Under administrative direction, provide shared services support with building operations and professional level accounting that includes financial data services, statement reconciliation, reimbursements, research, and transactional functions that may affect more than one department or organization; participate in developing and initiating strategies to improve overall effectiveness of services to meet workflow objectives and departmental goals. Position Requires knowledge of theories, principles, practices, and terminology of accountancy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Directly handles and/or provides leadership, directions, and advice in the resolution of complex managerial and financial scenarios. Processes journal vouchers, budget adjustment requests, and other financial processes. Provides services with financial and technical advice to campus leadership and/or operating managers, interpreting accounting reports, identifying problem areas, developing innovative solutions, and implementing strategies. 25%
  2. Participates in providing direction in the preparation of annual budgets, monthly reconciliation processes, and reporting while acting as a liaison between multiple university departments and management. 20%
  3. Research and interpret historical data for multiple departments to assist with developing departmental accounts with the fiscal management of multiple budgets. 10%
  4. Provides direct and/or indirect supervision of professional level accounting and support staff and provides support to research, investigate, and navigate financial process and requests. 10%
  5. Assist with coordinating and overseeing HAB facilities/building-specific activities including: 10%
    • Accept and greet all visitors to HAB administrative offices in a central, secure location.
    • Receive and distribute all mail/packages/deliveries
    • Main check-in location for all Facilities and Services and other building repair vendors
    • Manage all security and access for swipe card entrance to HAB building/floors/elevator/offices
  6. Assist with reimbursements, charge code reviewing, and other functions in Chrome River. 5%
  7. Customize unique reports and interpret findings for customers on demand. 5%
  8. Investigate Purchase Orders. 5%
  9. Monitor Team Dynamics for tickets. 5%
  10. Other duties as assigned include special projects for Shared Services and system office customers appropriate for the Business and Finance Specialist Position and works with other office staff to maintain office coverage during absences. 5%

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience.

OR

Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA).

OR

Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.

Additional education, training, and/or work experience in an area of specialization inherent to the position may be required:

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, as well as relevant laws and regulations; ability to apply accounting theory to very complex accounting problems.
  2. Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  3. Ability to present accounting or financial data in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical users.
  4. Ability to apply mathematical methods and principles to accounting related problems.
  5. Ability to solve difficult and complex accounting and related financial problems.
  6. Ability to communicate appropriately regarding accounting and financial issues, and exercise tact when solving controversial problems.
  7. Ability to direct and manage the activities of subordinates engaged in accounting activities.
  8. Working knowledge of computers, computer systems, and accounting software.
  9. Ability to work well with others.
  10. Ability to assess customer needs, meet quality standards of service, and evaluate customer satisfaction.
  11. Ability to compose complex written material and numerical data, knowledge of grammar and punctuation, spelling, etc.
  12. Ability to collect and organize accounting data, interpret its significance, and prepare accurate financial reports.


APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a 100% Full Time Civil Service Accounting Associate position. The expected start date is 4/17/2025. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.

The budgeted salary range for the position is $54,000.00 - 56,000.00. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
