What you'll be doing...

The Verizon Cloud Security Architecture team is looking for an experienced and high-performing AWS cloud security architect. The Architect plays a critical role in building security controls and developing security solutions to protect Verizon Assets in a multi cloud environment and will help grow our cloud security capabilities by strategizing, defining, architecting, and deploying cloud security solutions.

  • Performing analysis of cloud and container threats and risks, and formulating mitigation and remediation plans to resolve security gaps.

  • Designing and developing security controls across diverse technical domains, with specific emphasis on cloud and container IAM, network infrastructure, and data protection.

  • Designing and implementing a resilient security architecture for the AWS cloud, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory mandates.

  • Developing and creating reusable cloud security blueprints and templates, while upholding cloud security standards, procedures, and policies.

  • Conducting thorough security architecture reviews and audits to detect potential vulnerabilities and weaknesses, and subsequently propose effective security solutions.

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of existing security controls and measures and offer practical recommendations for enhancement.

  • Maintaining awareness of emerging cloud threats and vulnerabilities, adjusting security measures as necessary to protect the cloud environment.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to empower development teams in implementing secure cloud onboarding.

  • Promoting a culture of security awareness and collaboration throughout the organization.

What we're looking for... You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud and container security tools and technologies across various security domains of network security, encryption, and identity management.

  • Experience implementing cybersecurity standards & framework including NIST and CSF framework.

  • Experience in System Administration, Software development, Design Architecture, and/or implementation experience.

  • Experience in different programming languages e.g. scripting using Python or bash, to automate the build, test, package & deployment security code & configuration.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Good understanding of Cloud security compliance, posture management & threat detection.

  • Certified in relevant cloud security and cyberspecific certification.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer science, Math or related field.

  • Exposure to application Migration and hybrid cloud environments with DevSecOps methodologies.

  • Infrastructure & application security vulnerability detection, analysis, and remediation.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure (e.g., firewalls, load balancers, hypervisor, storage, monitoring, security) and experience with orchestration to develop a cloud solution.

  • Understanding of networking (e.g., DNS services, TCP, load-balancers, routing, firewalls) to be leveraged for designs and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with technical troubleshooting as well as partnering with vendors and other organizations to drive root cause analysis and solve complex technical problems.

  • Infrastructure expertise in system design for high availability and disaster recovery, monitoring, cloud efficiency, rightsizing, and patching.

  • Cloud and/or cyber security certification including AWS Certified Security - Specialty and CISSP/CCSP.
