THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will oversee an inmate work crew in the performance of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of a boiler plant within SCI Fayette. Your duties will include maintaining efficient operation of steam boilers under normal and emergency conditions, utilizing manual and automatic control operation systems, and reading and interpreting visual and aural gauges. In this position, you will perform scheduled and non-routine maintenance and operational assessments. You can expect to operate and maintain auxiliary equipment, clean and maintain equipment, and test boiler water chemistry. Additionally, you will monitor inmate movement during operational hours and conduct searches of inmate workers and work areas for contraband.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will have rotating days off.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
