Design Engineer 1 ajc ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Engineer, develop, and prove out product concepts and designs. * Design and analyze hydraulic circuits and circuit components for customer applications. * Modify, update, or change existing product and component drawings, test procedures, and assembly instructions. * Communicate design and development work to other departments via Engineering Change Orders, New Product Releases, Special Project Authorizations, etc. * Setup and operate product testing in a laboratory environment. Validate results with mathematical analysis. * Review, recommend, direct, and/or create product designs, modifications, and cost estimates and analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of products and project scope. * Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities to meet objectives. * Consult with customers after the sales department has established initial contact, to discuss all product issues related to form, fit, and function. * Set scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management. * Work on, investigate, and report or serve as a resource on projects requiring advanced knowledge of a particular field of specialization. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering * 1 to 3 years of o Design responsibility for the development and oversight of products o Hydraulic circuit design o Valve, pump, or motor design * Active participation in a hydraulics or SAE society during undergraduate program is highly desired. Language Skills * Read, analyze, and interpret engineering designs, drawings, test results and studies, and all other related information pertaining to materials, treatments, processing, and manufacturing. * Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers. * Write reports and business correspondence. * Effectively present information to management and customers. Mathematical Skills * Calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume * Apply concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and other engineering computations dealing with finite element analysis, and material fatigue. * Explain mathematical calculations and their relationship to product form, fit, function, limits, and life expectancy. Reasoning Ability * Define problems, collect and research data, establish facts, use intuition and experience to complement data, and draw valid conclusions. * Interpret an extensive variety of technical, complex, and/or diverse information in mathematical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Physical Demands * Occasionally required to reach above shoulders, climb, kneel, or crouch. * Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and capability to occasionally lift and/or to move up to 25 pounds. * Using hand tools, assemble and disassemble test-stand set-ups, products, and their installation and come into close contact with various operating fluids required for the test, function, and performance evaluation of products. Other Qualifications * Operate a variety of office equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, telephone, fax machine, * Operate hoists, cranes, lab and production test stand equipment along with associated devices used for monitoring and measuring all size and performance aspects of a product under development, test or production.
