Director Business Risk & Controls Advisory - Enterprise Operations (Remote)

Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

This position is a first line risk director responsible for support and execution of various risk programs and Business Unit (BU) risk activities in adherence with the Company's Risk Appetite and Corporate Strategy. This role will lead a team responsible for supporting various business units aligned within the Enterprise Operations division to include, but not limited to, Enterprise Fraud Operations, Client Advisory Services and Operational Excellence. Manage associates and/or teams that engage with business risks and controls across all risk types. Facilitates and/or monitor execution of risk policies, procedures and/or program requirements. Provides guidance to effectively manage risks. Manages the communication of risk related information and serves as an effective communication channel between the second line (Chief Risk Office), third line, regulators, and FCB business units. Participates in strategy discussions and provides input to promote risk awareness and ownership across the organization. Builds and develops collaborative partnerships with senior management across lines of business, internal departments, Risk Management program leaders, peer managers within first line, and other stakeholders to enhance the BU's risk management capabilities. Manages the recruitment, training, and development process for staff.


Responsibilities

  • Risk Strategic Activities - Works with Business Risk & Controls leader and senior management to create risk management strategies ensuring key risks are appropriately managed and are aligned. Provides BU risk considerations for business and/or strategic plans. Effectively challenges risk programs outputs, ensuring bank and regulatory alignment. Manages and recommends enhancements to internal controls, ensuring control testing is in place and results are in line with the Control Standards.
  • Risk Governance and Reporting - Oversees the development of BU risk reports that provide comprehensive view of risks that impact the BU and monitors BU risk and control performance. Identifies and summarizes Top and Emerging trends and actions needed to address impacts. Ensures established BU Risk Limits are appropriately incorporated into core processes and are aligned with the Bank's risk appetite. Advises BU senior leadership in relevant risk governance meetings, utilizing an understanding of the BU operations, risks, controls and related laws and regulatory guidance. Ensures timely communication around current and emerging issues and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Program Implementation - Provides feedback and collaborates on relevant governance documents to support BU activities and manage risk. Supports the implementation of risk program policies, standards and procedures. Coordinates risk assessments to evaluate and manage key risks. Partners with BU and stakeholders to develop action plans and mitigation strategies to address root causes and prevent issue recurrence. Coordinates with other functions (i.e. Compliance, 2L) to ensure alignment with broader risk management and governance objectives. Participates in regulatory inquiries, examinations, and audits in collaboration with internal stakeholders along with regulatory submissions, response and reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission. Monitor regulatory developments and findings and assesses their potential impact on the organization's risk profile and regulatory compliance.
  • Managerial Functions - Makes appropriate changes to team processes, procedures and efficiencies to meet objectives. Manages the performance training and evaluation of staff. Maximizes department achievements by providing professional development. Participates in mandatory risk training and educates BU personnel on key risk programs and topics. Develops and manages short- and long-term staffing needs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience in Financial Services, First Line Risk Management, Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk

OR

High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Financial Services, First Line Risk Management, Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk

Preferred Area of Study: Finance or Risk Management

Preferred Area of Experience: Management in Financial Services,

License or Certification Type: CRCM, PMP, CERP, CAMS; ISACA CISA, ISACA CRISC - preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Large Financial Institution experience.
  • Proven Enterprise Operations First Line Risk Management experience.
  • Proven expertise in Loan, Fraud, Branch, Payment & Deposit Operations.
  • Compliance certifications and/or knowledge of regulations to include, not limited to, Reg E, Reg CC, Reg D, Reg Z, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP, BSA/AML, Red Flags, Identity Theft, etc.
  • Knowledge of Large Financial Institution risk programs, practices, and control frameworks.
  • Knowledge of various banking and government regulatory requirements, guidance, and processes.
  • Business functional knowledge and/or leadership of Enterprise Operations functions to include Enterprise Fraud processes encompassing fraud strategy, prevention, detection, analytics, investigations, and recovery across the enterprise.
  • Business functional knowledge of client onboarding and call center processes including customer due diligence, beneficial ownership and other BSA/AML requirements.
  • Knowledge of major regulatory areas of focuses including Consumer Compliance Regulations, FFIEC Guidance, Stress Testing, Model Risk Management, Capital Planning and Forecasting, Enterprise Risk Management, and Operational Risk Management, Data Governance, etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate courage and independence when communicating with executive management and senior leadership when presenting complex issues, recommendations, and program opinions.
  • Proven management and organization skills.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with ability to collaborate and influence associates, senior management, and various committees.
  • Proven experience of leading numerous risk deliverables and/or projects concurrently.
  • Ability to lead varying levels of leadership horizontally and vertically in large scale deliverables and integrations.
  • Knowledge of operational and enterprise risk management including identification, assessment, and escalation of risk issues.
  • Ability to track and coordinate large, complex processes.
  • PC Skills including Microsoft Office Products (Visio, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

If hired in North Carolina, the base pay for this position is generally between $156,480 and $208,460. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
