The Sr. Consultant, Workforce Optimization, will be a part of a team responsible for solving some of the most complex issues facing health systems across the US. This individual will serve as an expert collaborating with a consulting team that performs assessments, identifies opportunities, designs solutions and partners with the client to implement workforce staffing efficiency initiative action plans. This includes areas such as premium labor expense, innovative care delivery models, process standardization, span of control, and skill mix designed to maximize top of license practice. All leaders on the Workforce Optimization team are expected to be hands-on with project design, deliverable creation, and implementation support for clients. The ideal candidate for this role must be passionate about driving workforce improvements in performance; effective at working in a fast-paced, high-energy matrixed environment; and confident in their interactions with senior leaders, providers, and business partners.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Provide general healthcare consultative and advisory services to the client in the workforce optimization/labor expense management space
  • Lead project teams to identify opportunities to improve clinical, financial and operational performance and develop solutions that will result in the client achieving leading practice performance
  • Synthesize findings from observations, interviews and analytics that clearly communicate, both orally and written, the problem identified, supporting data analyses, insights and fact-based recommendations for improvement
  • Structure complex business problems into frameworks that can be analyzed and solved
  • Ensure that client expectations and contract deliverables are met during assigned engagement
  • Perform project management activities, such as tracking deliverables, creating status reports, managing resource plans, and monitoring successful achievement of project goals
  • Utilize change management techniques to build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical key role in the ability to successfully implement identified solutions
  • Support the creation of sales pursuit materials and other business development activities (e.g., proposals and Statements of Work)
  • Participate in the continuous improvement and development of leading practice methodologies and training materials necessary to address ever-evolving client needs
  • Oversee and manage team members either directly or through a matrixed environment
  • Provide coaching and mentoring of project team members with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve complex problems and communicate findings clearly and concisely with all levels of an organization
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently in a fast-paced environment

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of experience in any of the following areas: Workforce Productivity, General Acute Care Healthcare Consulting, and/or Hospital Operations
  • Experience developing and implementing project plans
  • Consultative experience across clinical and cost improvement-related areas
  • Advanced Microsoft Office expertise, specifically Excel (i.e., Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Advanced Formulas, managing large data sets) and PowerPoint (creating and executing presentations)
  • Demonstrated success in yielding results within the area of workforce optimization
  • Willing or ability to travel up to 75% of the time as business needs dictate
  • Must be able to provide proof of a valid, unrestricted Driver's License and current Auto Insurance



Preferred Qualification:



  • Proven experience working in a highly matrixed organization

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
