The Senior Analyst, Financial Reporting will play a key role in the preparation and submission of external financial reports for AES Ohio and its parent company, The AES Corporation. This role ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal policies while maintaining the integrity and transparency of our financial reporting processes. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Legal, Regulatory and Operations, to deliver timely and accurate filings that reflect our commitment to operational excellence and stakeholder trust, and assist in identifying and communicating impacts of new or proposed accounting interpretations, pronouncements, or other technical literature. Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide timely and accurate SEC filings for US utilities/AES Ohio, as well as standalone financial statements as required by legal agreements and regulations on a consistent basis.
- Lead the preparation and filing of periodic reports with the SEC (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) and regulatory filings specific to the utility industry, primarily focused on AES Ohio.
- Draft and review financial statements, footnotes, Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), and supporting schedules with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Lead the XBRL tagging and review process to ensure accurate data presentation in accordance with SEC regulations.
- Monitor new SEC regulations and FASB accounting pronouncements; assist with evaluating their impact on financial reporting.
- Collaborate with external auditors and internal stakeholders during quarterly reviews and the year-end audit process.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls related to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404 and support audit testing.
- Participate in special projects, including process improvements, system implementations, technical accountant analyses, and ad hoc reporting.
- Build strong relationships with finance, regulatory, operations, and legal teams, and develop business and utility industry specific knowledge.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or progress toward CPA designation highly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in public accounting (Big 4/national firm preferred) or SEC reporting for a publicly traded company, preferably within the utility or energy sector.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Experience with Workiva (Wdesk), and SAP or similar financial reporting systems is a plus.
- Utility industry experience and understanding of FERC reporting requirements is a plus.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
