Job Summary
The Vice President of Ancillary Services oversees and coordinates the operations of various support and diagnostic departments within Family Health Centers of San Diego, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality patient care. Works with the President to identify strategies and opportunities for improvement through the assignment and management of special projects. Works with hospital partners, health plans and healthcare service vendors to promote healthcare integration across all systems of care. Creates efficiencies, reduces muda, drives excellence throughout the system.

Job Roles

  • Provides administrative oversight of FHCSD's high complexity laboratory and radiology service line promoting the highest level of service, excellent net margins and provider satisfaction.
  • Ensures Lab and Radiology services lines maintain a continued state of readiness for Joint Commission and LFS audits and site surveys, as well as Licensing reviews.
  • Develop performance metrics and KPIs for service lines under responsibility. Delivers on schedule, quality performance.
  • Maintains a high-level of knowledge of the healthcare landscape (local, state, federal), changing reimbursement systems; identifies upcoming challenges and opportunities.
  • Ability to translate opportunities or threats into actionable and successful initiatives for FHCSD.
  • Works with President and CFO to develop grant responses, and operational countermeasures to environmental challenges and threats.
  • Works with CEO and President on strategic hospital initiatives.
  • Works with CFO and VP- General Counsel to develop service and partnership contracts.
  • Participates and works with leaders, and support staff, to implement and sustain LEAN principles and strategies, throughout all sites and services.
  • Works with President to implement agency-wide initiatives and ancillary services line growth, focused on improving patent/client access, increased utilization, while enhancing FHCSD financial stability.
  • Works collaboratively with external agencies to increase or expand service lines and/or service delivery and funding opportunities.
  • Works collaboratively with managed care plans, positioning FHCSD for enhanced enrollment, partnership opportunities, and financial support of initiatives.
  • Expected to bring projects from discussion or discovery phase through implementation and successful and sustainable completion.
  • Serves as the senior level resource in areas of Laboratory, Radiology, and other ancillary/external services.
  • Provides regular communication on status of all projects and resource needs to President; prepares reports, briefs, analyses, and manages against targets/goals including scope, schedule, metrics, and revenue; develops electronic tracking systems/dashboards, accessible by stakeholders, to demonstrate up-to-date project status.
  • Using LEAN principles, provides guidance, support, and training to leaders to implement kaizen and Lean in the workplace.
  • Works on additional special projects as assigned by the President.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

  • Master's level education in healthcare administration, business, health information, or medicine or related field
  • Competencies in laboratory and radiology management
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job. Must have a car, a valid California driver's license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

  • Minimum 10 years' experience working in healthcare management in hospitals and ambulatory/specialty clinics.
  • Experienced in successful contract negotiations.
  • Trained in LEAN/kaizen methodology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Worked with advocacy or trade organizations at state and federal level.
  • Equal effectiveness in working with executives and front-line staff.
  • Experience working at the executive level.
  • Demonstrated progressive record of achievements with successive positions.
  • Servant leader.
  • Possesses humility and a keen desire for continuous learning; enhances system efficiencies through process improvement; fosters others' growth through sharing and teaching.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits.

$150,000.00 - $220,000.00

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
