JOB OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for leading the Cooperative Governance practice area for FCCS, developing and implementing consulting services and projects for client board members, executives and senior leaders. Governance clients include the Farm Credit System, agribusiness cooperatives, and cooperative organizations in other industries. This role oversees management and coordination of all projects and client needs with internal resources, outside vendors, program faculty, and speakers. It is important for the individual in this role to have expertise in governance, board function, board dynamics, board leadership, director roles and responsibilities, leadership development, adult learning, facilitation, and classroom management to deliver high-caliber consulting services and projects.

Since this position is responsible for client relationship management and generating client engagements with a broad section of clients nationwide, travel of up to 50% is required. Additionally, a key aspect of this role is to manage and develop other employees within the Governance practice area at FCCS.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Manages, develops, markets and conducts high level, sensitive and complex development programs for boards of directors, executives and senior leaders with a focus on leadership.
  • Manages and leads the internal governance team at FCCS.
  • Work with clients to facilitate discussion and discovery to assess client needs.
  • Services and projects range across cooperative governance and leadership, including board and director training and development, director peer and board evaluations, governance and board leadership consulting, and strategic planning.
  • Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of client business strategies, objectives and critical deliverables while providing direct support to clients in key areas (listed above).
  • Provides solutions for FCCS clients, collaborates with team members, designs and implements Governance strategy, programs and services focused on improving board and director leadership and business performance for clients.
  • Readily keep abreast of business trends, topics and up to date principles that enhance the ability to bring leading edge ideas and solutions to clients.



JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in Board Governance and Development.
  • Bachelor's degree in law, business administration, organizational leadership/development or a related field required, graduate degree preferred.


  • Strong leadership skills, and proven ability to lead multiple projects while managing a team ensuring quality deliverables and fostering collaboration.
  • The ability to travel up to 50% of the time, based on client need and request.


  • Governance Expertise: Deep knowledge of governance, including cooperative governance.
  • Experience working with boards in evaluation, training, facilitation, strategic planning, and consulting.
  • Ability to customize governance discussions and work effectively with Farm Credit System and agribusiness boards.
  • Cooperative Governance & Business Model: Understanding differences between cooperative, corporate, and non-profit governance, plus the ability to teach governance faculty and speakers. Knowledge of legislative and regulatory changes impacting cooperatives.
  • Global Outlook & Anticipatory Thinking: Ability to analyze geo-political impacts on finance, agriculture, and business. Forward-thinking in identifying emerging business trends, workforce shifts, and technology advancements.
  • Ability to utilize strategic thinking to take a big-picture approach to stakeholder management, governance strategies, and business objectives.
  • Strong Decision making and ability to handle governance challenges, ensuring appropriate topics are addressed.
  • Expertise in program development, case studies, training, and adjusting modules based on audience needs.
  • Policy & Process Development: Ability to create solid, effective governance policies and frameworks.
  • A natural curiosity and enthusiasm for understanding issues at the deepest level, before taking action.
  • Creative idea generating and strong strategic thinking skills.
  • Flexibility in style and personality to deal with rapidly changing strategies, personalities, client needs, preferences and requests.
  • Able to work in a variety of different environments and settings, different client organizations, regions and types of workplaces.
  • A flexibility to quickly adjust priories and schedules to meet client needs.
