POSITION SUMMARY The Business Development Data Analyst is responsible for the performance, integrity and reporting of facts, figures, trends, and analysis of APA's publishing division and its competitive position. This individual will help with the development an enterprise-wide data analytics and reporting hub, to support the strategies and goals of the organization, working with internal business units to align activities to strategic objectives. The Business Development Data Analyst will support acquisitions activities of the books and journals teams by identifying top clinical and research topics through market research and feasibility studies. The Analyst will also assess market trends, competitive analytics and other germane market data to generate sales leads for the sales team to drive the organization's revenue growth goals. The Analyst will work with large data sets, helping to create data subsets to aggregate, analyze and report data. We are looking for an analytic programming professional who thrives on the opportunity to review and compound data. You will discover efficient ways to organize and analyze data with attention to security and confidentiality, as well as developing new systems to improve data analysis. A great Business Development Data Analyst can fully grasp the complexity of the data and transform it for use by other analysts or researchers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of large, complex data sets and data programming. You will also be tech-savvy and possess excellent troubleshooting skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Database Management
- Works with the Publishing team to perform analyses and execute programming duties in the development, implementation, and support of the data analytics and reporting hub
- Provide dashboard support by helping to create technical reports or manuals for other teams or users, as well as gathering user requirements for improvements.
- Assist with managing all incoming data files and help the Publishing departments (Acquisitions, Editorial, Journals, Sales & Marketing, Customer Services) to coordinate Project Manager data related activities.
- Review data for inconsistencies or anomalies that could skew analytical results and communicate results with the Publishing team.
- Help maintain databases and conduct routine maintenance as needed to ensure data integrity.
- Help to streamline data collection and analysis procedures to ensure fast access to metrics.
- Help with providing analytic team with cleaned, standardized datasets and help support data analyses for various publishing projects and initiatives.
- Help generate and review documentation for all database changes or refinements.

Business Intelligence
- Create research profiles for all journals and perform gap analysis against the industry research trends and identify opportunities for expansion.
- Assess performance trends in books portfolio and identify gaps to inform product development.
- Generate lists of targeted authors based on research in top scientific areas, and track progress on commissioning content for publication and retention of authors for future publications.
- Conduct market research and feasibility studies to analyze the viability of alternative business development opportunities.
- Scan the marketplace to generate leads and build a pipeline of prospects to assist the sales team with driving revenue in support of the organization's revenue targets.
- Identify and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for each product, measure and report output, and inform the business of performance against KPIs.
- In addition to Editorial KPIs, identify, track and analyze all departments KPI's from multiple data sources to monitor business strategies as well as to identify trends and opportunities as appropriate.
- Gather, analyze and report on information collected from other credible sources, such as open web (Google) and subscription services (Outsell, Web of Science)
- Participate in the review of possible publishing partnerships and the Request for Proposal (RFP) process to evaluate market potential and commercial/editorial viability.
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc/BA in computer science, biostatistics, or relevant field with at 2 to 5 years relevant experience
- Demonstrating database management and analytic skills
- Proficient in writing SQL queries, stored procedures (e.g., PL/SQL code) and working with data in relational databases like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL etc.
- Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with modern database and information system technologies
- Ability to recognize and resolve system related problems; work independently and make necessary decisions within department guidelines.
- Proficient with MS Office (e.g., Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Access/Project)
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal communication and collaboration skills
- Some knowledge of statistical methods and analysis and experience with analytical software (e.g., SAS/SQL/SUDAAN).
