Job Summary: Works closely with Production Supervisor, Planner, Engineering and Materials Manager to process engineered designs through the fabrication department following the production schedule. Develops and writes programs for numerically controlled machines using engineering specifications and drawings. Analyzes engineering drawings to define configuration of parts and determine type and sequence of machine operations. Makes proper cutter selections for each part; taking into consideration such factors as speeds; types of cutters; feeds; and control system limitations. Selects program routines for the most efficient computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements for each part. Tests and modifies existing parts programs for engineering changes or program improvements. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates instructions for operators
- Reviews 3D CAD design blueprints.
- Makes calculations for programming including where materials should be cut.
- Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
- Communicates with engineers and clients who will use the programs.
- Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests.
- Prepares geometric layout of designs using proper software.
- Determines sequence of operations in a program.
- Chooses cutting tools that will be needed.
- Analyzes job order and performs necessary calculations.
- Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency.
- Analyzes and selects speeds and cutting tools for programs.
- Makes improvements to set up times for a task and contouring of complex shapes.
- Provides training for operators on automated systems.

- Take responsibility for the physical inventory of materials. Request material reorders as necessary.
- Perform or assist with any operations (i.e., operating fabrication equipment such as Punch, Laser or Press Brake) as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Consistently operate in keeping with all safety rules and requirements.
Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies. Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient skills and knowledge of computer systems (i.e. Microsoft software (Excel, Word) and other fab-based software packages or have adaptability and willingness to learn.
- Experience with programming is desired.
