Sawnee EMC is seeking a Billing Clerk. Preferred experience in administrative duties, invoicing, billing, auditing and processing data, and related accounting work experience. Must be detail oriented with strong computer, mathematical and communication skills.
PURPOSE
- Auditing the billing process to ensure all bills are prepared and printed accurately in accordance with rate schedules and fee policies.

DEMANDS
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Two-year certificate or degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two (2) years of related accounting work experience and/or training, demonstrating proficient mathematical, monetary and office skills; or equivalent experience as solely determined by the Corporation.
REQUIREMENTS
- High level of competency working within a Windows and Microsoft (MS) Office environment, including knowledge of Word Processing software (MS Word); Spreadsheet software (MS Excel); Internet, NISC Software platforms (e.g., Service/CIS, Financials/ABS), and other software in use by the Corporation. Advanced capabilities developing spreadsheets and graphs, building and operating formulas, inputting into databases, and constructing presentations. Ability to communicate well with all departments of the Corporation, as well as members of the Corporation.
- Must have working knowledge and experience with SEMC electric rate calculations and possess the ability to discuss these calculations with SEMC staff.
- Regular and reliable attendance record.
- This position requires that this individual report in time of natural disaster and weather-related emergencies, as well as recognize that the Corporation (SEMC) is an electric utility.
- Flexibility for overtime as necessitated by circumstances and on-call functions.
- Flexibility for irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends as necessitated.
- The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner as an essential job function.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviewing billing for accuracy by ensuring all rate changes, service charges and other required information are reflected accurately on the bills.
- Perform meter reading edits.
- Ability to input bill factors, adjust bills, apply, and remove charges if needed.
- Review meter reads to determine accuracy and reschedule meter reads if necessary.
- Perform coordination with meter reading services and operations.
- Keep Reports abreast of any issues with the billing process.
- Ensures accurate consumer billing in accordance with current rate schedules.
- Extracts data out of billing system to develop reports.
- Adjusts and corrections to consumer records as needed.
- Makes optimum use of time: Maintains current knowledge on advances and changes in SEMC policies programs and services, and in the electric utility industry in general.
- Assists with Patronage Capital reporting, including estate review internal and externally, document preparation, and processing of monthly estates and reports.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- This position reports to the Coordinator of Billing.
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Internal Communication: This position's internal customers consist of all SEMC employees and assigned contract workers.
- External Communication: This position's external customers include all SEMC members, the public, as well as vendors, legal advisors, regulatory agencies, and professional organizations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- While performing the duties of this job, the work in general office conditions with sedentary physical requirements and is regularly required to sit, speak, and hear, use hands to key, grasp, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
- Duties require the physical ability of sitting, keyboarding, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, hearing, speaking, writing, operation of telephone, operation of miscellaneous office equipment, as well as other defined sedentary tasks.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, kneel or crawl.
- Duties are performed within a community cubical workstation environment, with long periods of time spent working with a computer and reading print materials.
- The employee is frequently required to lift ten (10) pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift twenty-five (25) pounds.
- The vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Position requires the ability to work under frequent deadline pressures, multiple changing priorities, and frequent interruptions, along with assisting customers as needed
