Job Description

We have an immediate opportunity for a Process Engineer at our Freeport, Illinois location. The Process Engineer reviews and develops methods and processes (relating to the manufacture of hydrostatic transmission hardware or relating to the assembly and test of hydrostatic transmissions and relating hardware) in accordance with sound and accepted manufacturing and/or engineering principals, current state-of- the-art technology, directives and controls. Accountable for justification and cost control of special capital expenditures; related projects consist of engineering approval of concepts regarding special machinery, tooling and facilities to support the company's objectives in a cost-effective manner OR engineering design approval or special assembly machinery, tooling and test stands required to support the division objectives in a cost-effective manner.

This is a 1st Shift Position, but would be required to support all three shifts, as needed.

Salary range for this position is $78,000 to $98,000, DOE.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities:



  • Analyzes and interprets manufacturing related data and assists shop personnel in solving tooling and/or process method problems relating to machinery, or to assembly and test equipment tooling and/or process methods.
  • Develops processes and initiates tool designs as required to support cost-effective quality manufacture of hardware; OR develops process equipment designs and provides specifications for assembly and test equipment.
  • Analyzes CNC programs either manually or through CAM software for CNC lathes, and vertical and horizontal machining centers.
  • Analyzes ANSI spline parameters and interprets analytical spline geometry data to recommend adjustments to hobbing or spline rolling machines.
  • Approves completed tooling drawings for concept of design, workability and cost parameters.
  • Analyzes and reviews current manufacturing or assembly and test methods, equipment and engineering design to improve process and affect cost reduction savings.
  • Performs liaison by providing technical information to purchasing on matters dealing with procurement of special materials, methods, specification or available sources.
  • Prepares or guides the preparation of tooling or special machine designs and initiates the authorization for capital expenditure for required equipment.
  • Understands and proactively utilizes manufacturing hard tools such as: Design for Manufacturability (DFM), 8D problem solving, Lean Manufacturing concepts, Design for Assembly (DFA), Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) One-piece flow/Cellular Manufacturing, Visual Inventory Control (VIC), Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), Total Productive Environment (TPE), Poka-Yokes (Mistake Proofing), CNC/NC programming
  • Demonstrates computer skills in the following areas: CAD/CAM - preferably Gibbs Cam, NX or AutoCad, PLC programming, System 10 programming, Word processing, spreadsheet, and database knowledge, Simulation software, BASIC programming language
  • Implements tool designs as required to support new products or process improvements.
  • Keeps abreast of and utilizes most current technology where appropriate.

  • BA/BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited institution; 2 to 5 years' experience supporting machining operations; or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
