Get to Know Your Team:

  • UT Health Tyler, the flagship hospital of the system, has 432 licensed beds specializing in advanced acute care medicine. Our hospital includes a 24-hour ER with Level 1 trauma center, a comprehensive stroke center, more than 500 physicians and a full complement of subspecialty groups.

Responsibilities

  • The Orthopedic Technician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, is responsible for the setting up, maintaining and monitoring traction equipment as ordered by the physician, assisting physicians in application and cutting of casts, transferring and positioning of orthopedic patients, assisting nursing staff with daily hygiene needs of orthopedic patients and assisting with routine vital signs.
  • The Orthopedic Technician will be cost conscious in the use of supplies and order supplies when necessary or as directed by the nurse in charge.
  • The Orthopedic Technician must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required Experience:
  • One year experience as a Patient Care Assistant and/or Orderly recommended
  • There is need for use of patient care related machines and equipment. Examples of these may be such as but not limited to: C.P.M.'s, traction equipment, SCD's, special beds, cast saw
  • This is an OSHA category 1 position. Body substance isolation must be practice
